Opinions on requiring community service hours?

I was lurking around this sub for a while but I wanted to ask something As a high schooler I've been making jokes for a while that “community service hours” is just an excuse to get free child labor with our calling it child labor and while I said it as a joke I honestly kind of believe it. I was wondering if this was just me.

What do you think I should be getting paid? Restaurant manager

I’ve been at this restaurant for over 10 years. I run and operate it aside from paying the bills and initiating payroll. So I do the schedule making, hiring, firing, obviously plenty of problem solving and scrambling at times. I do get use of a company vehicle (sedan) and gas comped for that as well as a business credit card to make store purchases and the like. I keep the ship afloat. I guess my question is what do you guys think my value is?

Am I a failure?

Hey everyone, so I wanted to share with you what I’m going through. I’ve been out of college for a couple of years and with the combination of the brutal job market and me being unsure about my future career plans, im currently working minimum wage jobs right now while I’ll figure out what I want to do more permanently and long term. I have a degree in history and I feel like I should be farther ahead because of it. Am I the failure or is society failing to support our young people?

Conference Call

So I am with a new company and there are almost daily conference calls over zoom between management and sales. It's a lot of brainwashing basically. My manager asks this question: “What are some examples of where we make the 'easy' decision instead of the right one?” No one really responds right away, so she provides a few of her own examples and one was “not taking notes on a zoom call just because you are driving.” I don't really need to explain what's problematic about this, I don't believe. I'm thinking red flag.

No one does their job

I almost got a write up for attendance (3 of these and you're fired) because being a no call/no show is automatically a write up. Generally each write up is for 4 absences. I called off yesterday and today because our house is flooded and we have to deal with it, I used sick days but I only have one attendance write up so I could have just used infractions and there would be no discipline. Yesterday morning I get a call from work asking me to go in on my off day. I decline and then the clerk says “Hey did you call in today? I have you as a no call/no show but you never do that” I cleared it up with him, but if he hadn't called me I'd have had no idea. I called off on time, per procedure, and would've been written up because someone…

Anti-Greed

I think this group should be named anti greed. I feel that most humans love work, but hate being mistreated and especially underpaid. Work can bring me great feelings of being valued and needed. I think most humans love work if they are treated fair, and the better they are treated the more efficient and effective they become. They are companies out there that will pay you more than you ask. That will give bonuses and better benefits. And boy, does it make life a whole lot more enjoyable. Unemployment is a bore. Sure it is extremely helpful, but it’s not permanent- so it’s not a solution. My thoughts and prayers for everyone who is bitter (rightly so) about not being paid enough and working too many hours. May the right opportunity come to you.

Has anyone seen those Amazon ads… bragging about $15 an hour?

I think it's terrible that they try to make it seem like $15 an hour is a “good” wage. Making themselves seem like they are compensating employees well, when they're not. It just kinda seems like a “fuck you” type of ad. It feels like they are trying to persuade the working population into accepting $15 an hour as a reasonable wage.
