6 weeks ago my boss(61M) was fumbling and mumbling under his breathe the standard “no one wants to work” bs. I typically just stay out of his way when he gets to ranting but on this day for whatever reason he called me into his office and asked me what is the deal with my generation(31M) why does no one want to work. After I told him I'm not particularly comfortable with talking politics at work he then assured me he genuinely just wanted to understand what was going on. We are severely understaffed and he needs to understand how to reach us because we are not meeting our production goals. So I figured I had nothing to lose explaining to him. Hello, I was working at a chain of restaurants as Kitchen worker. It's a well known fast food chain, so one would expect that it might be a little exploative, but even for such little standard the treatment I got there during my 6 months of work was terrible. There was a gas leak not taken care of at the beginning, screaming all the time, toxic relations between workers, being late with pay, expecting workers to come on unscheduled days and manager being mad that I expected salary confirmation (Lohnabrechnung, in Germany a very important thing that should be given by employer with every pay i think). There were many other situations which made working there impossible, worker rotation was insane, young workers were usually exploited even more and I wouldn't wish my worst enemies to work there, basically.
