Was temporarily ghosted by a recruiter today

I had a scheduled call with a recruiter to talk about job options. I sat around anxious about the call all day, but when the time came I had all of my stuff prepared and ready to get it over with. The recruiter was supposed to call me. Instead, I got no call, voicemail, or message when the time came. I waited 15 minutes (which is how long our call was supposed to be) before I was like “screw it”. I had to leave and get things done so I just pushed it to the side. Then, exactly an hour past the scheduled meeting time, I get a call and a voicemail saying to give them a call back so we could complete our scheduled meeting. I'm assuming someone probably read the time wrong, but I pretty much quadruple checked everything to make sure I didn't make that kind of…

A small victory for the working folks.

Valued Team As we set out to plan our FY23 budget, we had to consider many factors due to the state of our current world. Inflation is at a forty-year high.  Labor shortages are contributing to problems in service delivery, shortages in supply, and rising costs of many critical items.     At Company name we value our employees, current and future. We wish to have a comprehensive and high-quality delivery of service to our community.  We simply cannot do that without being able to retain you all and hire great teammates to work alongside you.  As we approach the budget this year, we know we will have to plan for increases in many categories and none were more important to us than you, our employees.     In recognition of this, we asked Human Resources and MassPay to study competitive rates across similar industries. We put together a proposal based on that…

About to ask HR for a raise tomorrow

So I’ve got a job offer on the table which would comes out to a $10 raise per hour. I’m excited but it’s a little bit of a dangerous job compared to where I’m at now. At my current job, 2 people have quit this week which I know sounds like a red flag, but it speaks more to drama within their particular shift than it does of the workplace as a whole. Nevertheless, I’d assume HR wouldn’t want to lose 3 people in the same week. I’m going to talk to HR tomorrow to hopefully use the leverage I have to get more money. I thoroughly enjoy my job but I have to go where the money is at for myself and my kids. Any tips on using this situation to my advantage?

this IS the real world

i work with a lot of older women and they're constantly complaining about young people's work ethic. these women do work hard in the warehouse but the reality is that everyone is also working hard out on the floor. they complain nobody wants to do the work in the back, while at the same time being incredibly demanding and critical of everyone who works with them and purposely abrasive towards new people. if they're ever called out, they say 'someone's got to teach these kids for when they get into the real world!' this, said by a group who work no other area of the store, get the hours they want every day and call out all the time. well guess what? this is the real world and you seem to be the ones struggling with that much more than any of the kids. most of these kids still live…

What about all those robots?

So now Musk is saying that he'll have the regular “worker bot” ready by 2025. And that it will replace jobs that humans find dangerous and/or boring. Well there goes 90% of this sub, replaced by robots. He said it was much easier to build the maid robot from the jetsons than to build a car that can reliably drive itself, so naturally he should build the robots. It only makes sense. So I don't think we're going to have to worry about how much money we make as wage slaves for much longer. Cause I think soon enough we're not even going to have work. Maybe it takes 5 years. Maybe 8 years. But it's coming.

what can an hourly medical employee be asked to do in Texas?

I have a relative that works at botox clinic, and they pay an hourly wage. They require that the employees answer their phones when a customer calls after hours (its an app with the clinic phone number that has the employees personal phone ring when called). They do not pay extra or outside the hourly wage for this. Also, they do not pay overtime for hours over 40, they just pay the same hourly wage. Is any of this legal? Asking for a relative
