The 40 hour workweek was never meant to be for two adults in the same household working full time. And yet here we are, most people barely scraping by, with little to no free time to actually enjoy life. Why aren’t more people talking about reducing the workweek? Productivity is at an all time high. Companies are making more than ever. Depression and suicide rates are increasing constantly. Yet the most “progressive” thing I’m seeing done is companies allowing their employees to take 3 day weekends by getting their 40 hours by Thursday. But what good does that actually do? Sure, a long weekend would be amazing, but Monday – Thursday you’ll work 10 hour days. Factor in commute, errands, eating, cleaning, and other daily tasks and how much time is actually left? None? When I was at job corps I was talking to an RA and talking about career goals, life goals, picking each others brains. I was bored and he's pretty knowledgeable he's one of those 60 yr Olds with a young soul but still very old school . He was bragging about how he's worked 2 or 3 jobs since college and how the current Gen should be greatful for all the opportunities they have to make money. I was like “and you're proud of that?” I explained that I plan to get paid at 22$ hrly but that's still below what I deserve and need.
