That busy time of the year

Man summer is coming up and I feel like this is when the work is gonna overload us. Doing a lot of overtime this week to help prepare for the busy time coming in July. But oof the work it’s doing to my body is killing me.

Knowledge base articles are very much a double edge sword for job security. How do you feel about them?

So this is an “At Work” topic about how strongly we choose to protect employee job security. If you haven't encountered knowledge base articles at work before they are basically steo by step instructions on how to do anything and everything that people do at work on a daily basis. Used correctly, KB articles help get new people up to speed quickly and can be used for old employees to look up information that they do not do regularly on the fly without having to distract others from doing their own jobs. More than that, valuable knowledge isn't lost when people retire. When abused by employers, however, they can be used to easily to fire and hire new people who are willing to work for less money, giving lower level employees very little job security and they can be further used against employees seeking a raise because the value they…

Fired on week 3.

Took a new job where my husband works, I (27F) am a machinist.. Completely different departments too. I was trained for 3 days, that was it. Quality was supposed to check parts that I run. Well 21 were bad, too much material left on the part. I wasn't taught properly(BIG FUCKING SURPRISE). Now, the problem was behind us, I even had developed a way of reworking the parts to save the company money. They would just scrap them out. Now I was the only woman, and I was the one of the few people who was multitasking in the entire shop. I think like 3 others were too. And today, after 218 I was called to HR, a different HR btw. No idea who this lady was, not the HR I met. Told me I was terminated. “It just wasn't working out”. That's it. I asked questions, no answers. I…

Planning to quit tomorrow

So, I actually started this job yesterday (Monday). It was technically a promotion from the previous role I had served with this company for the past 2 years. Been with parent company for 4 years in total now. I had the previous week off, and began to realize during that time that the promotion likely was not going to change anything in terms of how I feel. Overworked, tired, and spread far too thin. Current job pays a decent salary, but they literally are having me oversee 3 properties at once. I was under the impression this was fairly standard. As it turns out, there are similar roles, for similar pay that are just responsible for a single property with different companies. I feel somewhat bad, because the new “boss” seems like a decent enough guy and I have only had him for 48 hours. But I am…

I feel like I’m in the twilight zone when I tell people my job hasn’t scheduled me for 2 weeks and they act like it’s fine

There's so much I could say but basically my job had me coming in 40-50 hours per week as a “part time contractor” which really means that they were giving me no benefits and making it so that I cannot have a second job but also they won't be liable if I suddenly don't work at all. I had been doing my absolute best there, really can't think of anything I was doing wrong. Multiple people had even commented on what a great job I'd been doing. Then suddenly, soon after hiring someone new in my position, that person is getting all the hours I used to get and she even started with a higher rate. I have some big bills I will not be able to afford next week. I genuinely don't understand why they're doing this. And if I ask, I know they'll chastise me saying they made…

I’m a trainee and my boss complained that I didn’t take my exam while I was very sick with Covid

I’m 22 years old and I am a trainee at a small company in Germany. My Boss was pretty upset that I didn’t go and take my exam while I was pretty sick with Covid (I have proof). He told me that it cost him over 4000€ (he is the CEO of the company and probably a millionaire). I told him that testing for Covid was mandatory before the exam and that they would have sent me home anyway. He basically ignored that (doesn’t surprise me since he is an anti masker). I wish I could prove what he said and report him. On top of that he is paying all of his employees not enough and does not care one bit about his trainees which are being mistreated and given pretty much no education. I’m currently looking to find a better company to continue my training.

Baited and whipped

This sub has been such an eye opener. Over the last year I have been inspired by your stories. I was so inspired in fact that I quit my job as a driver for amazon and thought I found the perfect one at a preschool after really searching. At first I got nothing but praise and appreciation and a promise of a free master's degree. Yesterday I asked for a raise or more hours because I was working 35 hours a week at the most and being paid $17 an hour netting me $1.3k a month and got nothing but “I wish I was on rental assistance too” because I mentioned my need for it to afford my $1k rent. Yesterday I was asked to buy $230 of supplies for the school out of pocket or else I wouldn't have work that day. I'm now being asked to drive 30…

I no longer want a career, I just want $20.00 an hour. Is that too much to ask?
