Passion and Burnout
I essentially worked my whole life to get the job I have now, and it’s everything I imagined it to be. And I just realized it’s burning me out. Even if you do something you love, set boundaries.
Reminder: Company loyalty is a lie
Companies will say they strive for company loyalty or a network of employees who are loyal to their company, but its a complete and utter lie. There are three main reasons for this: “Company loyalty” does not benefit workers whatsoever. You are not married to this company. If there is a better job offer, take it. Do not feel as though you are betraying your job, even if you like it and management is good. You can keep your connections and make more money in a better environment, and even get more references for the future as well as experience. By subscribing to “company loyalty” mantra, you are shooting yourself in the foot atleast financially. Companies don't care if you are or are not loyal at all. If you are, they'll mine you for all you've got and feel comfortable that you won't quit despite the quality of your work.…

Requirements for Unpaid Job
I used to work in IT and became sick on bed rest. I had a manager who wasn't the best and had me terminated for failure to show up despite knowing my situation. Years later a friend became the manager and wanted to pull me back in only to find out I couldn't be hired due to what the manager did. That's the long story short of why I started thinking about the concept of firing someone and why it's so destructive to many companies and workers. Why don't employer's activity try to re-hire workers that they've already trained who were let go for minor issues? Why isn't there a period when someone who was fired can re-apply for a job at a company that they previously worked at? It just seems like a complete waste of time and money to rinse and repeat when there are people who would…
Switching companies is the best way
So I 23M started work at a company right out of college. This is in a field largely dominated by women however is in high demand especially for men. This was a job that only required a HS diploma but would be a gold stamp on my resume going forward. Ended up falling in love with the field. So much so I decided to go to grad school to further my career in it. When I was first hired they offered be $20/hr. I negotiated going to $22/hr after my probationary period and review. 3 months go by and I have to remind and push for my review for another 2 months before I get it. I then am told that they may not be able to get me the raise until I improve in some areas. Admittedly it was fair criticism in those areas, but I mentioned I would…
I’ve been applying to some roles on Linkedin, and almost every one that got back to me was a pyramid scheme. It’s so fucking frustrating.
When I suggest that working hours should be reduced to four, I am not meaning to imply that all the remaining time should necessarily be spent in pure frivolity. I mean that four hours’ work a day should entitle a man to the necessities and elementary comforts of life, and that the rest of his time should be his to use as he might see fit. https://harpers.org/archive/1932/10/in-praise-of-idleness/
Holding Good Employees Back
Is this true – one of my co- workers told me that some employers will hold a really strong employer in certain positions (deliberately passing them over for opportunities) because they need the work done right and can't afford to lose the employee from that position.
