I was layed off April 29th, but my last day of work in May 27th. I had planned and approved vacation time May 20th until June lol I've asked management if they want me to take it off or keep working, and she said it's up to me! But still warned me that if I work it and get my holiday payout, I might jump into the next tax bracket don't know if I should laugh or cry. I'm working it anyway, because I don't care if THEY want to save money that I deserve and need. We're unionized, thank God, but they are deleting my position and said that I could apply for the new one which is more pay, same fucking duties as I'm doing now, but more responsibility and leadership is expected. HR told me in my layoff meeting that looking at my resume, I don't quite…
Working for free
Why do these type of employers still even exist? I have to do a 1-month co-op for school. I struggled in finding a company who would hire me so I went for the company that my friend referred. I'm doing social media management for them and there's a lot of tasks let me tell you! What annoys me is that their management decided that it will be an unpaid co-op. It sucks cos they demand so much output but can't even bother to pay us at least minimum wage. I don't have a choice cos I have to do this co-op thing to graduate. Fml.
Resigned after being physically harrased
Last week I resigned from my job. There were many things wrong happening there but being physically harassed was the final straw. Long story s̶h̶o̶r̶t̶, My coworker who I was a training put the wrong item in the wrong container (despite the containers and items being labeled) and passed it down the production line and I wasn't there to correct it when he did that. (Personally, I don't mind when people make mistakes, plus the guy is new and he was actually a funny person. Before he got hired, I was a one man operation. Loading and unloading material, monitoring and maintaining FOUR MACHINES.) Eventually that container goes down the line to my supervisor. My supervisor sees the mistake and walks over to my desk with said wrong container with the wrong item inside it and tosses (not places, tosses) it onto my desk. After seeing him toss it onto…
Background can be found here and here. You know what to do, antiworkers. Fake apply here.
We here on r/antiwork get a lot of stories and experiences from people in horrible working conditions for various reasons. Which I think is great and this subreddit would be much lesser without them. My problem is the responses to these posts. Go to any post on r/antiwork about someone giving their own perspective or experiences on a matter and you inevitably will find multiple comments from people telling them they are wrong. These are often times people venting about shitty situations they have personally encountered, just to have some random person on the internet tell them that they don't know what they are talking about. Even though they are talking about what they personally experienced, so they definitely do know what they are talking about. The same goes for the simplistic advice. Nobody asked for your advice, that is not what this subreddit is about. If they wanted advice…
I had worked retail jobs through most of my 20s, Walmart and various small shops. Recently I was out of work and made ends meet through a day-labor program and was quickly hired onto a crew as an assistant Trim Carpenter for $17/hr. Perhaps it was just the crew I was on, but the work was far less taxing. I mean, yes, there is a lot of heavy lifting and physical exertion involved in construction, but the work can be pleasant and there are a lot of periods where I could just chill or do some menial work. Staying moving around meant I never got sore feet by the end of a shift, and the best thing, being able to check my phone without a supervisor breathing down my back. Some days I would spend an entire shift sitting in the shade just shouting out shoe molding measurements for the…
