Thank the Lord some old man came in to the restaurant I manage and reminded me that I'll never amount to anything. For a while there I was under the impression that I was starting to get my life together and maybe even potentially be capable providing for my family. Luckily enough for me this wonderful gem of a man, came in 5 minutes before my shift ended and talked some sense in to me. If he hadn't told me that I was a piece of shit who wouldn't amount to anything then…. I honestly don't know what I'd do. I'd probably still be living under the illusion that I'm reasonably happy and that I deserve even the tiniest bit of respect. I may even believe that I deserve my dignity as a human! Can you even fathom that?! Somebody showing even the slightest semblance of respect as a person…
I work at a small plant in the United States. I started working on the production line and after a year applied for and received a customer service position. It's structured so that there's typically 3-4 of us in the regular customer service role (though at times it's been as little as 2 for stretches), then a manager, and that manager has a boss in the sales department. I've worked for the company just shy of 10 years. About 2 months ago I emailed my boss asking for a raise for the first time since I worked at the company. I've gotten a 3% raise every year since I started in the customer service department after my very pointless “performance reviews” each year, but have never actually flat out asked for a raise. With prices soaring and with the raises I have actually been losing money for the past few…
My coworkers and I are in a fight with our bosses. It's been a year-long journey so far, and our efforts have gotten lost amidst Amazon and Starbucks. I get it. They're big names. But it's been leaving us high and dry for action from the NLRB, and boy, it's been getting me real pissed off. You know all those news reports about Amazon and Starbucks violating union law? Well, my company has: -Coincidentally “discovered” that everyone who testified at our initial hearing were involved in a data breach, which they used as justification to fire them but did NOT report it to their clients. -Fired people who asked for ADA accommodations. -Demoted someone and completely changed their job duties (along with a pay cut) and then fired them when they asked what their job was now. -Hired scabs. Like, lots of them. An entire other company's worth of scabs.…
Uh, character development?

I'm 18. I started this new job about a week ago. Yesterday was my 5th day there. The 2nd manager just called me saying a “customer called me very irate, Emily the other manager told me what had happend yesterday.” I have treated every other customer nicly (as you should) but I told this guy sorry I'm new and still don't really know how to use the register as well and still am learning all the different terms/ words for the foods here. Bc he was ordering so fast i couldn't even put his order number in first. At my other job (before this one) I never did register I was always doing dishes and trash and occassionally making food. I'm not dumb, I just don't understand registers and when I'm super stressed out I cannot think. Idk if i have some “type” of ptsd. When teachers yell non stop…
