Every day I see posts on here containing the grievances of so many people in the U.S. Inflation is up. Wages are stagnant. Veterans are still never taken care of. We continue to see the rich gather more wealth to themselves and leave the rest of the population behind. Help me out here, what are some changes (stopping quantitative easing, outlawing stock buybacks, term limits for congress, overturn of citizens united, increase minimum wage, universal health care) that could/should be done to our system to fix our country. If we can get a well thought out and polished list, we can then start pushing for candidates who we believe will carry those out in government. I'm in NV, and am struggling to find child care that's not going to break the bank for my family. I'd 100% run for some type of office to institute meaningful change in my state…
I just need to rant about this. It's about both myself and my mother. My mother and I work/ed for our local library system (she's still there, I am not due to reasons I'll get into later). She's been there 17 years, and she worked her way up from shelver to circulation manager. She's the type of manager who never asks anyone to do anything she wouldn't do. She scrubs the bathroom when people fling shit all over it (happens more often than you'd think). She bans people who abuse her employees. She secretly pays for food for the homeless regulars out of pocket, even after the higher-ups told her not to. She's all-around the type of manager someone SHOULD be, but so often we don't see. She recently got her annual performance review. For context, she's been taking care of my grandmother, who is 81 years old and has…
I'm so tired of not being appreciated or respected at jobs where I try so hard. It feels like it happens every time?? I used to think it was me, but now I'm realizing it's my managers just…not having the empathy to realize people need to pay their bills. My current job is one I have tried my absolute best at, I've been doing so well there and I felt like it was finally being noticed, then suddenly I'm not asked to come in for almost 2 full weeks. For context, they just hired another person in my position for no reason and I was worried my hours would take a hit, now that's exactly what happened. Before this I was working minimum 20 hours per week. Does my manager just not care that I will obviously be hugely financially suffering from working like maybe 16 hours in 2 weeks?…
The audacity of employers feels unreal.
A week ago I started working at a new company, with the employer telling me beforehand how much they are paying for this position. I didn't really care I just wanted a comfortable job for the time so I said yes. I was tasked with being outgoing and talking to the colleagues, and by doing that I of course also learned about their pay. A week later I found out that my colleague, who does exactly the same as me and just started 2 months earlier, makes 20% more than I do. They company also recently got bought up by a slightly bigger company and they promised me that it means higher wages than before. My colleague started before that happened and didn't get a raise in the meantime. So I felt uncomfortable with how unfair I was treated and right the next day I went to talk to my…
No motivation to work…
First off I’m not lazy because I get up everyday around 5:15 to go to the gym to set myself up for a successful day and in bed by 10pm. I also have an alright healthy diet. I’m 24 years old and can’t seem to find any motivation to keep a job. I was blessed with an alright paying job a few years ago which I was able to afford a new car (19 Honda Civic sport) but no longer have that job and I’m struggling to pay for it. I’ve been doing DoorDash and instacart for the past 5-6 months and love it but it’s not paying to bills and I’m not saving any money. I recently got a job at Walmart as a personal shopper (full time) and I was super hyped about it. I was going to be able to save money and pay my bills on…
I work in a factory as a maintenance mechanic/millwright/electrician/ whatever the fuck my boss wants me to be in any given moment. I was 30 mins late to work because public transit sucks. Usually i get verbal instructions in the morning for jobs of the day, but i missed the morning meeting so all i had to go off of was a single typed sentence, vaguely describing my tasks, which was sent through a work group chat. So i show up, and go ask my supervisor to give me the rundown for my daily tasks. “You are working with Dan today, go ask him.” Fine. I go ask Dan. We have to cut some metal plates and bolt them to some old metal steps, to act as guards to cover up a gap that someone could potentially fall through. So I measure the gap, go to the hot work room,…
A true democracy where the people have equal say in matters, not just electing representatives to make choices for us… how hard would it be to make a platform or an app that you log into to vote on bills being passed. The general public would be calling the shots.
How corporations will win; USA edition
Corporations are buying up all of the housing. Soon housing will be offered as a perk of employment, albeit your salary will be lowered by the price of the mortgage plus 10-25%. Now, just like health insurance, shelter will be tied to employment. “Choose” not to work? “Choose” not to have a roof over your head. “Choose” not to be able to receive health care. What have we become?
