I’m young so forgive me if I’m wrong about this but where I live it is common for people to join electrician unions or plumbing unions etc. why don’t they have like accounting unions or unions for other white collar jobs?
Edward Bernays, the grandfather and inventor of PR, was one of the most influential men in history. His uncle was Sigmund Freud (yes, that one) and he was very quick to jump on psychology and how it could be used to manipulate the masses. PR itself is just a rebranding of propaganda He used feminisism in the 1920s to sell cigarettes to women, making them think it was a defiant act. He distabilized and had Guatemala couped, on behalf of the largest fruit producing private corporation, when the country's leader tried to implement better Labor Laws and rights. He's the reason bacon and eggs are a staple in the American breakfast. He sold America's intervention in WW1 to the public as the US 'Bring Democracy To Europe'. He's the reason why you think there are 'Left vs Right' wings in politics, a model of narrative control implemented during McCarthism. Prior,…
I've interviewed at 4 jobs and after the 1st interview I've been ghosted. I can already guess why tbh -there is a misalignment on compensation which could have been avoided by stating budget upfront But regardless I find the complete ghosting and lack of follow up as unprofessional because they'll tell me “we'll look into flexibility and get back to you” like why lie lol. I've had to reach out to get rejections and some I just left as is. Wondering if you have been having the same experience?
Then I would love it. A lil fuck you.
Submitted Notice – Boss Furious
Just wanted to share that I submitted a one week notice today and boss was absolutely furious. They asked “So you’re not going to work out a two week notice?!” to which I said I did not have the time to do so. I said I would also be taking my leftover PTO time during this period before leaving. They repeatedly said they were so disappointed I was not submitting two weeks which is laughable as I’ve been training my replacement for 4 months and they were aware months ago I would be moving out of state which is why this was even happening. I tried giving them a copy of the resignation letter I wrote and they refused to take it from me and told me to email it to them. It is just so funny how delusional and toxic the people at this place are to think I…
Hi, guys. I thought these sorts of things were purely exaggeration, but I just had a frustrating phone call that reminded me of the reality behind the anecdotes. I'm in the process of looking for work, and I saw an ad that looked decent, if a little too light in information (specifically no pay listed). The following is a summary of the conversation I had with the manager on duty: Me: “Hi, I'm calling about [position]. Could you explain more on the nature of the job and the compensation?” Them: “It's basically just [echoes job post].” Me: “Right, but could you elaborate? Also what's the hourly or salary rate?” Them: “I notice people always ask about pay. We don't really discuss that until after the interview.” Me: “Okay… Could you at least give me a range?” Them: “Again, we don't discuss that over the phone. Is that the only thing…
Long time lurker, first time poster. Was paid minimum wage (£8.91 at the time)to run a small restaurant on my own. Was promised a pay rise that would be 'similar to those in the surrounding areas'. Had a sit down meeting with my manager and was offered £10.55 as that is all he could afford. Or so he says. However after reading some of the stories posted on here I looked at similar jobs in the surrounding area before this meeting and found the average to be around £13-£15 an hour. He still refused to budge and if it hadn't of been for this I wouldn't have had the nerve to even bother arguing and would have smiled and said thanks. Instead I said thanks but no thanks, take my month notice period. Within 2 hours I had applied for 3 jobs and had all 3 interviews and trails booked…
