I find myself in an odd position with my current employer around contracts. The main issue is I was never given a contract to sign. I was handed a job offer and the terms of that and more have been met consistently throughout my 5 years at the company. I'm not too concerned about my lack of a contract as if you can prove that you've been working at a company without a contract for long enough employment rights still apply and my particular role would be pretty expensive to recruit for anyway so I feel safe. The problem now comes that I'm fielding calls from recruiters and taking interviews. I've been telling interviewers that I “only” need to give 1 months notice (3 months is common in my industry). Now I believe I could actually get away with giving 1 week, but I think if I say that to…
I am being offered a 10 month contract to replace my current 12 month contract. I’m going to ask if I’ll still be considered full time or if that will make me part time and how that will affect my benefits. I know they’re going to require my salary drop accordingly rather than increasing my pay. Can I file for unemployment for two months? Id love advice on negotiating pay, but I’m sure they’ll tell me to take it or leave it. I’d like to take the offer, but I don’t know what the long term unintended consequences of this might be. I’d appreciate any thoughts or suggestions before our first meeting.
Changed My Availability – Advice?
I needed a part time job for the summer. I was looking for 20 hrs/week. When I got hired at a local restaurant, I told my boss what I was looking for, and what days I was available. He scheduled me for all of the days I said I could work. I was working 39 hrs/week. I changed my availability to only two days so that I would get the hours I wanted. I came in the next day and he told me I would be on dishes rather than the position I applied for because of my limited availability. What would you do if you were in my position?

Losing My Sanity For A Cubicle
I’ve been going through an extreme amount of frustration with my job. I am only 27 years old but suffer from chronic pain from an injury that I need to continue physical therapy for. I also have persistent depressive disorder, severe anxiety, and PTSD. This makes doing ANYTHING difficult, even if it’s something I WANT to do for myself. I’ve gotten my first taste of a corporate job. I’m a customer service rep for health insurance. You know? One of those jobs in which it should NOT be mandatory to waste 40 hours of my life in a cubicle, excluding the goddamn commute on top of that. I am officially 6 months on the job, thank god.. But in less than 6 months they’ve managed to dwindle my (at the time of hire) improving mental health into absolute SHAMBLES. Prior to the peak of COVID around the holidays, I was…
Why are we all still going to work?
What if we planned a Revolution (gardening, community) and none of us consumed anything as a strike
I've been working at a disability/mental health company for 6 months. I usually work between 6- 10 hrs a day plus I get called in for the weekends for no-shows. I am a caretaker and my other position I usually drive clients to doctor's appointments or outings. I was told by another staff member that I work too hard for the amount of pay $15hr and so I should send an email to request for a pay raise. But I don't know how to write one. I need help please and thanks.

How do I respond?
My employer is trying to make everyone participate in presentations (50 min) both Saturday and Sunday twice per quarter. So basically twice a quarter work Monday all the way to the following Friday with no days off. This was directed by email and we were told it's mandatory. We were given every weekend through the end of the year and asked to “volunteer” where we wanted to give our presentations. I hate this. It's being presented as “this is just what you're doing”. How do I respond that I wouldn't work 12 straight days for anyone and no one has asked this of me ever in my life? Because I feel like just saying “I won't be participating in this so what are the consequences?”
The company I work at has union representation but not in my department, and while I have expressed that my department can be in that same union I have heard nothing but the same “we are looking into it” answers. The current rate difference is $2/hour. We are about to have an overhire contract to bring some safety concerns up to code and they are hiring the union workers and myself for this job but are only paying me the “non-union” wage for literally the same work. If there is any advice on getting my position unionized all help would be appreciated. I already have meetings set up with the local office and with the company.
