I 'was' been long-term unemployed but now I am on disability benefits for severe mental health issues, because that's unfortunately what has become of me. I no longer have a desire to look for work as I just cannot take the corporate world anymore. Anyway, without going into too much detail, I want to start socialising more as I am no longer interested in letting my joblessness stop me, but do get asked “what do you do?” or “where do you work?”. I feel I need to come up with a stock response that doesn't give too many details. What do you guys say when people ask?
A little back story in the situation. My employer took all shifts away because i was 10 minutes late to my shift (i have proof it was only 10 minutes) and because I refused to continue paying into an illegal tip out fund going directly to my boss. He has told everyone in a staff meeting he uses this money to cover losses and clean his restaurant. This is highly illegal and just wrong, so I refused to continue to pay into it. I have contacted the labour board in regards to this issue and any more including unpaid work hours(15 minute early rule) harassment, improper / no training, and reprisal against me for enforcing the health and safety standards be followed at my place of work. He has been contacted as well. I was missing 3 hours of pay for a shift I showed up 10 minutes late for…
thank you father john
Im not a fan of posting. I'm a stocker. But Idk what to do. Boss hired a new manager. He's been on a serious power trip. Fixing things but also incredibly harsh. I have a disability that effects me so I can't work much. While stocking I had gotten sick and had to grab a granola bar to help it. I went to the break area. He came found me telling me I need to be working and I should've eaten at home if I get sick and to get back to work halfway through the bar. Hours later I had grabbed my water after stocking half the store and took a sip, to which somehow he came around the corner yelling at me to get back to work. He took away the bottled water for employees so we've brought them from home, now. I can't drink water and anytime…
and I was born with two invisible disabilities. It was probably somewhat by design, if you follow, and I'm not the only one that this has been and is being done to as you read this. It now costs less to join the IWW, who have a strike fund and other support resources, than it does to join most streaming platforms, but I'm probably preaching to the choir in here with that but. Viral ad campaigns are not that hard to get going. you really need just a few heavy hitters with large followings to share or retweet something and it will take off all on it's own. truth still spreads faster online than lies please contribute your own truths, general strike memes, and posts to this effort in the next 3 weeks here, there, anywhere you are comfortable posting these things. leave something in a copy machine any guerilla…
I was studying for a year, living with my parents rent free, and thought it was “nice.” Woke up naturally every morning without an alarm clock, ate when i was hungry, cooked meals, went to the gym and stayed up until i wanted. Now a week later after getting hired everything changed. Wake up at 5 Am with an alarm clock, quickly make coffee, prep food for the day, force breakfast down, and if i include my commute (1 hour each way) I'm basically gone from 7:30 AM and arrive home at 7:00 PM. So i get free time of 3 hours, of which i am exhausted and just want to sleep. It's only been a week but this makes me wanna jump off a bridge. The morning doesn't even feel like my time since its prep, and i feel like an idiot since the commute is unpaid. I don't…
Years ago, at my first job at Walgreens, I tried calling in sick. I woke up feeling like shit enough to not feel guilty about calling out. (A rare occurrence) During the phone call, one of my managers tried guilting me into coming in. This happened EVERY TIME. They would often call me to cover shifts and if I said I didn’t really feel like it, they would pressure me into coming in. So this time was no different other than I was sick. So me being a dedicated employee, I agreed to suffer through it. When I was punching in, the store manager said to me “you don’t look sick” in a tone that clearly said, “you’re a slacker just trying to get a day off.” The crazy thing is that I had been working there for over a year and this was my first attempt at calling out.…
So we've all seen the horrid email circulated by Applebee's about screwing employees during the gas pinch, but now it seems It's actually standard approved practice by the company according to this news article: “The email appears to have a positive reception amongst other Applebee’s higher-ups with one person forwarding on the message with the exclamation “words of wisdom from Wayne!!!” https://katu.com/news/nation-world/applebees-executive-says-high-gas-prices-are-advantageous-for-lowering-employee-wages-03-25-2022
