Thinking of calling it quits.
I work for a very small company where I am literally the bedrock and linchpin for any growth. I came with the expressed intention of being the production manager once I have trained enough personnel to adequately replace my production. Its been nearly a year and my best candidates have left the company due to operational ineptitude. My own position as production manager was even taken by the guy I literally replaced; because he couldn't generate enough work my production team. He was replaced by someone significantly better I must admit. That does not however negate the fact that I no longer have any upward mobility and the guy that replaced me is now my boss and is significantly under qualified to help me or advise me or supervise me in any way. Change is going to take awhile
Daily Mail has an article about Ian Goodfellow, Apple's head of machine learning, who resigned over being told to come back to the office three days per week. I've been reading the comments and it's making me miserable to see how many people are calling him “whiny,” “lazy,” a “crybaby,” and so forth. “Your boss decides where you work–not you!” “You should feel lucky to HAVE a job!” I guess because THEY had to work in an office 40 hours a week, EVERYONE has to do it FOREVER. I don't even think it's an age thing. I'm a “tail-end” Boomer and I certainly get it, but most of these people are not even willing to admit their mindset shouldn't apply to everyone, all of the time, in every situation. At this point, I'll be retired before anything gives. What a world! Good luck to all.

I am not getting compensated on my off days, and they are not off time I got in exchange for working extra hours – the exact definition of 'comp time' My off days are not a gift bestowed upon me by my employer. Those are my real life. 🤮
