My husband was sent home in March 2020 and has been working remotely full time since then. We live in the boonies and have not great internet, but it has not been a problem. We stream, both have Teams meetings, phones, TV's connected…maybe a little laggy at times, but absolutely nothing major. 2 weeks ago his company sent out a cryptic email stating everyone needs to submit a speed test. The tone was suspicious and husband was immediately on edge. Today he gets an email that our internet at 14 mpbs is not sufficient to work from home. Work will not provide a number that is adequate. Husband is in a VP position, his boss is a CFO and he has not heard anything about this. Apparently 5 people under him were notified of this problem today with absolutely no warning to them or their supervisors. People that have been…
Stop Voting For Capitalists
Minimum wages won’t be livable if republicans and democrats keep being elected. In the last 40 something years, none of your politicians have had any of your interests in mind. You need to start a political party that represents your views and will be willing to force the changes that you want to see. You have to stop writing on Reddit and take action. Words are meaningless, actions aren’t. This doesn’t mean violence, this doesn’t mean authoritarianism. It means simply getting REPRESENTATION. None of you have this, you aren’t being represented. You are being cheated. The same can be said for Canada, we have ineffective bureaucrats and drama teachers (who wear black face and will tell the opposition to “fuck” off btw!) leading the country instead of proper representation.
What is your work horror story?
I have two; NSFW In high school I worked at a fast food restaurant. We had to get permission to use the bathroom. One day at lunch rush, my period started. I asked my boss to use the bathroom and they told me I couldn’t until lunch rush was over. After asking her every 15 minutes, 3 hours later I was allowed to use the restroom. I was soiled. I had to go home to shower and change uniforms, I was humiliated. My boss wasn’t happy that I had to leave and told me I had to be quick about it. In college, I worked at a retail clothing store. I was being paid minimum wage but expected to buy the clothing in the store. Obviously, I couldn’t afford it so I did my best to wear something comparable. One day, I get pulled into the office by my manager…
50% of what I see on here are people learning to be assertive with their employer. I hear a lot of concern and guilt, and as someone who has worked since I was 14, so 30 years, I want to encourage everyone to own the details of the trade of your time for money. That doesn’t mean being unkind, mean or unappreciative, it means being direct, firm and confident. My mom taught me to take no guff and my heart goes out to each and every one of you, we deserve dignity . I have been through hell torturing myself with guilt asking for the simplest thing. You don’t have to. Go get ‘em. Unionize. Ask for what you are worth. Team up. Edit for more impactful wording from feedback.
I recently lost a friend in the systems engineering space he decided to paint the wall of his bathroom red. He isn't the only one and the number of EOL notices I have seen lately is concerning because its mostly highly intelligent people that see the numbers and don't see a possible positive outcome that are the most affected. I get it how can you afford a house or to even live with the price of everything but if we keep losing people like this where is our society headed. I'm worried about where this is leading and how we could recover if it goes to far. Just a thought not sure where this belongs. Try to hold on I hope change is happening but only time will tell.
