Let me tell you a story. It is not one that usually resonates with the typical US-focus but reading the stories on this sub I think you might enjoy it. Every now and then those images go around with the amount of (paid) annual leave countries have. US are usually at the bottom. The top countries have 25 days or so. I live in one of those. What people don’t realise is that 25ish is usually the legal minimum. Few employers actually offer that. It is usually more, typically 28-32 days (plus paid national holidays of course if they are on a workday). Why? Companies would of course always offer the minimum if they could get away with it. It is higher because unions have consistently, over years, pushed up paid annual leave from the minimum. Regardless of sector. And kept it there. But, you see, 28-32 days are still…
“billionaire mindset”
The recent strikes
A lot of places have been going on strike and winning in starbucks. Verizon just had a store go on strike too and I'm wondering why there isn't an app that tracks each place on a map thats striking? If we had updates on these places and an app to track, it would help me find nearby places and go support them financially and with what I can do professionally.
Re: I was just fired for discussing pay
Original post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/ttsd15/just_got_fired_for_discussing_pay/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf So I need a little advise. Since the original post an agent from the NLRB confronted the company on my behalf with the charges and they offered to settle. How much do I ask? They already owe me around $1300 in fees and backpay but the agent stressed I could ask for more on top of that, anything, but that he couldn’t advise me on what to choose. Seemed like a clear hint but I have no reference for this stuff. What would be an appropriate ask? Edit: I don’t remember the exact wording but the charges are for violation of a protected activity and interrogation. I think they tacked on retaliation as well but he never really confirmed it so much as brought up the possibility. Currently the board hasn’t come to a decision on whether there’s merit in the charges or not but the…
Working 6hr a day is okay
It took me a very, very long time to stop feeling guilty for working 6hr shifts instead of 8hr shifts. I work freelance, and while I could work for 8hr, I don't because I feel exhausted when I do. Even though I felt better when I worked less, I constantly felt guilty because I could earn more if I wasn't so “lazy”. I had this idea that if I worked any less than what everyone expects me to work, I am being a spoiled brat. The matter of the fact is… I perform twice as good when I cut those two hours, I also have time to cook and to hit the gym which improves my mood and in turn, improves my performance the next day. If you want to be healthy mentally and physically, if you want to feel fulfilled and satisfied when you finish work, then shorten your…
very angery
Working as usual, was told my days to be moved to cover the work. My usual days are Mon – Fri, it’s now moved to Sun – Thurs Which I already didn’t like but my contract was any 5 in 7 so I had no power. Now I signed the form saying I understood and accept the change in my work days. It said my wage will be the same whilst working during weekend. I’ve raised this but manger said everyone’s the same so I accepted and signed Only to find out couple of days, my other worker DOES earn more during weekends What can I do, I’ve signed it etc so I have no power?
Starting new job
Starting a new job today bartending, the company has horrible reviews from all staff. The manager made me wait over an hour past our interview time. They are “excited” to have me on since they are very short staffed, wonder if the server the manager was yelling at for 15 mins while I was waiting feels the same, any way What they don’t know is I’m moving back to my home state in 3 weeks, and just need a little extra money before going. :). Jobs are nothing more than pay checks.
Man oh man I have seen some stuff on this sub. And I saw every last bit of it at that meeting. I recently started working at a Travel Centers of America in an undisclosed location(can't dox myself), here on my second week I was told I had to come in for a meeting. The only specified topics of said meeting where “chain of conmand” and “wages.” Now I have a long drive home, so I only had about 3 hours of sleep before the meeting, but I was lucid enough to know that it was going to be interesting. And boy was I right. Right out the gate the two main managers of the store start off by complaining that too many people are calling HR and their boss to complain about how much they're making. And so they launched into a whole spiel about how they can't do…
