Gave my two weeks notice to move to a different company with better pay and a lot less responsibilities. Nothing felt better than witnessing reality settling in for my boss when he realized exactly the level of work I was doing. In a couple of weeks I’ll no longer have 19 projects on my plate… and they are getting 3 ( yes THREE ) senior staff to fill in for me. Cheers!
Finally saw one in the wild.
How it started -> How it’s going
I work as a Software developer and am usually paid once a month. I woke up on payday and found I had not been paid, for a months of work. I asked why and was told that it's a “glitch” Needless to say that as a software developer “it's a glitch' is not a sufficient explanation. Despite everyone on my team relying on me and the client expecting to meet with me I left them all hanging and refuse to answer their calls. I told my boss we can discuss my new salary when they deposit my entire paycheck. My boss is scrambling to make excuses to me and the clients and is unhappy and the team is without senior leadership. So there is a lot of people.wondering where I am right now and the projects are dead in the water.
I'm at a Five Guys for lunch right now. They have a placard up front advertising their hourly wage. My burger, small fries, and a small drink costs more than their hourly wage. I can't in good conscience eat here anymore. Sorry Five Guys. This is my last burger from you. Step up your game.
“Do you have any piercings or tattoos?” I don't have either, however I was surprised by this question (Phone interview) as I feel it is a loaded question if you say “yes”. I feel like this is discrimination or at the very least extremely out dated thinking.
In 2020, our company made the decision to fire roughly half of the employees in my division. I ended up getting shifted to a new position. Well surprise! About 4 or 5 of our competitors *did not* fire people. They hired a bunch of the guys we let go and started competing in our spaces. Company decides the logical thing to do is raise prices by 25%. They also start charging for a bunch of services we used to do for free. Client base shrinks by 30% over the past year. VP says “clients are definitely willing to pay more judging from the success of our premium services”. OK, then why was the net profit $10 million in 2020 but only $3 million now? Sometimes I think people just exist on an entirely different world. The answers are so obvious but they can't see it. TL;DR: Company fired a ton…
I've been working for a company for 14 years. I left for a year and came back in January of 2020. They offered me $13.50/hr and I tried negotiating, but they promised (for all that's worth) to give me a raise after a year. Now, 10 months later, they hired a new guy and they're paying him $16 and he's got 3 months experience. I was told by my manager that even though we've had record sales this year, he doesn't think the store can afford to pay me more when my year rolls around. I'm afraid I won't be able to be around when they can't pay me.
