I just sat through a meeting where I was offered an internal position and was told that “our typical agreement offers 6 weeks paid vacation instead of 5, in exchange you are not eligible for overtime pay, of which you are never expected to work. If you ever need an hour or two off or work an hour or two over, just balance it out. You are also entitled to 89 hours a year of work balance time off.” I asked what the guidance was or a typical reason for taking this off “just as and when you need to balance your work days and life”. I know this is a US centric website, but come on America.

That was a comment someone made on a post I shared talking about my job. That was three months ago. Having never heard of this sub, I was curious, and came here to check it out. And oh boy, it changed my life. The knowledge and perspective I've gained here – sometimes disheartening, sometimes hopeful – has changed the trajectory of my life. It also gave me the confidence to demand a significant raise at work – which I received. So today, I went back to that comment (figuring it was tongue in cheek) to thank them for introducing me to this sub. To be safe, I checked their post history. Turns out they hate this sub, and is a total capitalist wannabe, participating in “become a millionaire!” type subs. So congratulations unnamed poster.
