A year and a half ago I quit a job where my employer tried to talk me into driving around on ice covered roads, in a van with smooth tires, to go fix his hvac unit. I attempted to talk him thru the steps to diagnose the issue. Once I did that it became a real issue with him. He began to degrade me and hold over my head the fact of times I had to take off/leave work early to watch my son or take my SO to the hospital (she has been battling bladder cancer at 36yo). I guess the title explains it all… USA here. I'm in the middle of a career change, my current field is really getting under my skin with how low we're paid. Long story short, I'm in the veterinary field and it pays like balls. We're one of the biggest industries for passion exploitation and I, and several of my colleagues, have had enough. Unfortunately, I can't rally the troops, so to speak, as too many of them are afraid they'll lose their jobs. So I've decided to quit the industry altogether. After many months of research, I have decided to pursue UX design. I am already redesigning my LinkedIn, resume, and portfolio but I need a couple of references…just to add a little extra to my application.
