Leaving the cubicle farm
There are 2 parts to this story, but I’ll keep it brief. 1st- left law school and became a claims adjuster for a large insurance company. It was a 30 mile commute in traffic and had to wear a suit, no taking off a jacket, even though we never saw clients. Imagine a Home Depot but all cubicles, no clients, ever. I couldn’t believe this was my life after deciding to walk away from law school and 100k in Debt. 2nd- someone realizes I know about cars, so they give me company car and allow me to wfh, going from junkyard to body shop, etc… it was incredible! But then- new boss comes and says everyone back in the office. Back to the cube. Ugh… a bunch of us met up on a Saturday for bloody Mary’s lunch, and then went to see “office space” at the theatre. 15 quit the…

Wage vs Inflation
I don’t know if this is the right Subreddit for this question but at what point is the wage vs inflation hit a diminishing return. What I mean is at what point do we just even out with a consistent wage and price for things, before we know it 30/hr will be the new avg and inflation will make it hard to get by on 30/hr. Are we going to just keep going or is there some kind of solution to this circle. I make little over 26/hr and I have to constantly remind myself that that’s not a lot anymore. I’m 34 and when I was a teenager that was really good money and I find myself sometimes stuck in that same time period in my head thinking thats good money, not even close now unfortunately.
So….. No rent this month?

I'm a member of Seafarers International Union who's never been active and I'm pissed off. New 3-year union contract with my employer came out: 7% raise over three years. 3%, 2%, 2%. Inflation was eight percent just this year. We got a pay cut. It's a joke. And this is in an environment where companies are BEGGING to hire sailors. If ever there was a time to squeeze the man for all he's worth it's now. But I think the union is too old and complacent and mobbed up to do anything and it's basically a wing of management at this point. I've never done any kind of organizing before, but I at least want to get a bunch of us sailors together to send a message to SIU that we're pissed and they need to shape up. Where on earth do I start? Thanks.
