“God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war… our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off”
I noticed that they round up / down on the time sheet in intervals of 0.25 So for example, lets say I clock in at 12:00 pm and clock out at 2:58 pm. Instead of being paid for three hours of work, I would get paid for 2.75 hours of work. Similarly, if I clock in at 12:00 pm and clock out at 3:05 pm, I get paid for 3.25 hours of work. Is this allowed?
I am calling their bluff.
I have been working with my employer for 3 years now and have only seen a $1 raise increase. I only make $40,000. All I ask for was to get paid a living wage and they couldn't do it. This company brings in half a billion dollars in revenue a year and they can't do this. Let's just say I am not sticking around with this employer much longer. I have already gotten 4 employers interested in me and 1 job offering me $53,000. It's pretty crazy.
Use your paid time efficiently
To explain the title in a nutshell, found a posting for my job that pays more than what I'm making and that kinda hurts. Long story long, I'm looking to apply to a Google Apprenticeship (3 actually, just in case) and I thought I would create a brand new resume to really wow the hiring team and hopefully stand apart from the rest. So, looking into the types of soft skills I want to brag about on my resume, I decide to pull the flowery language that hiring managers use to describe the job. You know, “adapt to new situations and think on your feet” or “Superb attention to detail”. After all, I have this job so I must be doing these things already, I just want to describe them in a way hiring managers like. I google my job at my company specifically and it looks like we're hiring…
finally free from minimum wage hell
Earlier today I posted an image on this sub about a note I was leaving because I decided to quit my job a week early. Well once I finished my work, I clocked out 10 minutes early, taped the note to the manager's door and waltzed right outta there. Now I'm Starbucks with my last $14 dollars getting a coffee to celebrate my new job and leaving my old one. Thanks to those who saw my post and now I can finally be happy that in a month's time I won't be financially in shambles! Cheers!
