Today is my last day

Today is my last day at an employer that I have held various positions with since 2009. While it was an okay job in regards to pay, I wasn’t treated with respect or appreciated for my efforts. I feel so liberated that I fell ashamed for not making this step sooner.

I’m so exhausted from work I have to nap during my lunch break.

Before I get into it I just want to point out that I am leaving in July. So I currently work in a UK primary school as a teaching assistant, working with children with extreme needs. I love my job and working with the children but it is exhausting. I started working with a new lad after Christmas and he was very violent and it was taking all my energy to work with him for half a day every day. I mentioned it to my boss and he agreed that it would be best to put an additional member of staff with us every morning to support me. This was great and it was working really well to the point the lads behaviour was getting better and he was really settling down. Until a few weeks back, we had a lot of staff shortages due to covid and my additional…

Should National Pet Day be a day off? Pet owners say YES and want to work in pet friendly work spaces

A recent survey from Vetster shows that employees highlighted the role pets play in the workplace. Survey findings include: 6 in 10 pet owners having left a job to seek a workplace that was more pet friendly 7 in 10 pet owners willing to take a pay cut in favor of a pet-friendly office 48 percent of pet owners claim to be more productive at work when their pet is nearby 46 percent believe their pets help them to break the ice and make new acquaintances 39 percent believe their pets help them to avoid burnout As a result of this study, Vetster just launched a NationalPetDayOff initiative. NationalPetDayOff aims to bring awareness to the role that pets play in the lives of employees and the workplace. Pet ownership has surged over the last two years, with 70 percent of North American households having at least one pet. This, coupled…

Current g.m. not happy. Pretty tame compared to most

Exactly what the title says. I've been an AGM for about a year now, was told I was going to become the g.m., 6 months and zero training they decide I'm not qualified, after literally throwing me in with said zero training. They hire the absolute DUMBEST MF. Like we're a sandwich shop bro you can't short us on bread, and expect us not to run out. Running out of lettuce, tomatos. Its really not hard to just do the prep while we're closed. I've done it for 6 months. It's almost impossible to do once we're open, with 20+ tickets. Have you ever went to say a subway or something and they didn't have bread? Exactly. That slice of yeasty deliciousness, is the building block of a damn SANDWICH SHOP. Anyways, legal issues aside, I decide f* it, I send some applications and get an interview, hired on the…

Boss forcing us to take July 4th off, but counting it as a vacation day.

My entire life of employment July 4th has always been a day off, which did NOT count against vacation days. Suddenly the boss is forcing it as we will be “closed” for the week, but then is also requiring us to burn a vacation day on a national holiday.. what are your thoughts on this one? I have an email drafted where I explain when I will be using my vacation days with a calendar included. July 4th says “National Holiday work closed” on it and I do not count it as a vacation day. I know this will be met with resistance.

Overworked Underpaid, Finally Quit My Job

About a year ago I took a job managing a small size kids sports facility. From the beginning I made the mistake of doing more classes than listed in my job description. At the time I was told it was necessary due to being short staffed and things would improve. The classic, it'll get better line. I had a bad run of potential employees, after a phone, in-person interview, and scheduling their first training shift, I had four people in a row not show up. I suspect it was the starting pay I'm allowed to offer. It's hard physical work and starting pay is $15, $17-20 with experience. Then again I could just be an asshole. At this point I asked for a raise, the facility had grown significantly since I took over. In my job description, which I was told to reference in lieu of a contract, it states…

I do maybe 30 min of actual work per day. Be like me

I’m in the maintenance department at a Waste Management office. I’m basically a glorified custodian but I get paid 18 an hour. I do 30 min of work sweeping, restocking the bathroom, cleaning the cafeteria and then I sit on my phone for 7 hours I get paid the exact same as all the other ‘hard workers’. If I get fired, I get unemployment. Be like me, never be a hardworking slave
