I've been with this company for almost 5 years coming up at August 18th. I only make $14.80, and out of curiosity asked a co-worker what he was making. He's a new hire making $15 an hour. Aside from asking for a raise, what are my options? I'm also part of the union and a lot of our rights under the union contract are being ignored such as selecting our schedules, I'm at the whim of the supervisor instead of being able to choose. I'm thinking of asking for a minimum of $16 an hour considering the other job I'm looking at is that same pay (I just don't know if they'll accept my application yet) I'm fucking heated but I need to think straight about my options and what I can push for.
Grind culture is max cringe
Starbucks hit with sweeping labor complaint including over 200 alleged violations “the coffee giant threatened and intimidated workers by closing down stores in the area, reduced workers’ compensation, enforced policies against union supporters in a discriminatory way, engaged in surveillance and fired workers, among other alleged violations. ” Starbucks stole pay in an attempt to fight the union. Theft victims should be paid back.
Everything is in the title, I struggle to find enough articles/sources or even pot. Ty in advance
I am broadly and fully in support of the Anti-work movement, I think our modern conception of employment is coercive and outdated. I want to escape the corporate hellscape and make something that makes people's lives less miserable. I want to grow the best weed I can, and sell it at prices that workers can afford. Eventually though this will probably grow to the point where I cannot do it alone. So I come to you my friends of r/antiwork, when the time comes that I need help, how do I deal with the conflicting goals of abolishing work and my own drive to escape modern work? I've thought a lot about a Co-Op where every worker owns part of the company, but that doesn't feel like enough. What can I do to be the best I can be here, and do right by the people I work with?
Quitting is not the way.
I see a lot of posts about crappy employers doing crappy things and in response, we are giving high-fives when OP announces that they quit. In the U.S. where the employer is on the hook for paying unemployment benefits when terminating an employee, I don’t understand why people are quitting in response to threats of termination.
Craft Beer Is Still Capitalism
After spending 15 years in Tech and SAAS start-ups I burnt out. I grew my beard longer and started bartending again to make cash. A friend of ours and their partner had opened a brewery and needed help. They couldn't afford the market rate for someone to set up their wholesale distribution program so I jumped in. Working for 15/hr I managed their taproom and stood up an entire distribution network starting out of my personal car. One delivery of three kegs was no match for the snow and rock that would destroy the back axles of my car. The owners were sorry but would only give me $100.00 towards my deductible. Something that cost me close to $3000 to repair. I was livid. They then fired me, as I was not quiet about my discontent. Two weeks later I received an email they were contacting the AG and were…
