Starbucks Union Retaliation Concerns
My bf (21) is a part-timer at our local Starbies in NC. Some workers at the location are talking about unionizing with SB United, but he’s concerned about being fired – we’re both college students, the income is necessary for him and there’s not a lot of open jobs in our town right now. How can he try to prevent retaliation? Organize off company time? Get everything in writing? And, if he is fired, would the NLRB or other group provide a lawyer for a lawsuit? We wouldn’t be able to afford one otherwise, plus he’d barely have time to handle the suit with classes going on.
Teach your children well
I've learned some hard lessons in my life. So, this is the wisdom I've been passing on to my children — in an age appropriate way, of course. We live in a ruthless capitalist society. When push comes to shove businesses don't give a shit about the well-being of their workers if it interferes with the company's ability to make a profit. My former boss is the meanest, vilest, most hateful, two-faced snake I ever had the misfortune to meet. They were the reason I left back in the day. Last I heard, was that the entire staff got together and filed a complaint against them. Former boss is now officially fired and this news made my week! I'm so happy for all of my former colleagues.
It’s a mystery never to be solved.
I was interviewing with a local manufacturer on Monday and the process was going well. I had already had the basic screening phone call with HR and now I was sitting down with HR director & COO of the company with whom I would report to as part of the role. Quick background for me without giving too much personal information. I have worked in the fast food industry, retail, heavy and light manufacturing for commercial and government companies, Telecoms and mobile companies. I currently work for a fortune 250 company but with the conditions of the market I wanted to see what I could get elsewhere since my current company decided that the reality of inflation was only impacting the company boards pocket and not the rest of its 20k+ employees. Our latest raise was not even half of the increase in cost of living so honestly I felt…
