I always get anxiety when I hear an office phone ringing while out and about and feel like I need to go answer it
I went back to school to join a field that was supposed let me contribute to society and would provide a decent enough wage for me to finally get out of my parents' house. The data about salaries and employment was given by the professional organization was misleading. When I was half-way into my degree, I started to learn how companies pay new graduates much lower for the first year, and in general, wages are all over the place without rhyme or reason. I've been told repeatedly by colleagues that you have to know your worth and advocate for yourself in this profession or you WILL be taken advantage of. I know of a case where there was a $40,000 difference in wages for the same position! My classmates have up to 15k differences in salary! I cannot find reliable information on average starting salaries anywhere. (So, how did this…
Employee Housing
I was venting to a friend about working so hard for the wage I make and how it seems like a massive hill to climb for a raise with the rising costs of materials, labor, etc. on the owners end. He raised the idea that the future of work may mean that employers buy property for they’re employees to live rent free (I assume a more likely scenario is just reduced price). Just curious if anybody else has talked about this and if not what your opinion on my friends thought was. My personal thought was that it would be great to subsidize rent for the employees, only downside is that you now have to interact with people you may want a break from at the end of your day.
Worker bees can leave Even drones can fly away The queen is their slave
I’ve been in school working part time on weekends for the last 2 years. I graduated and got a great full time job. I sent my letter in last Saturday and said this upcoming weekend would be my last. I really don’t like to end things on a bad note so I had decided not to just quit without notice. However I’ve been working in my new job full time all week and I really don’t feel like waking up early and going to work my last two part time shifts this weekend, especially when the job is paying me less than half of what I’m making with my new job. Would be an asshole for not working this weekend? The company still has at least $1,000 in vacation money for me I’ve never claimed since I worked with them full time before going back to school and working part…
4 Rounds of Interviews
After 6 weeks of interviews and sending in a writing sample, I was told I made the final stage of the hiring process. I interviewed with a team that asked me what my favorite nacho topping is, chipotle or Qdoba, or do I like mayonnaise… 2 weeks later I was told they moved on with a different candidate. My choice in nacho toppings decided if I was worth hiring.
My job is breaking me
I've been working for my current company since Sept 2020. Immediately after I was hired, I was pushed into an assistant manager role (for a call/sales center) because there wasn't one on my shift and I started organizing people because nothing was getting done. I finally got a raise of $2/hour after 5 months… No back pay, of course. 2 months after that, the manager quit and I was unofficially the manager (because there was no one else trained) for a month before I finally got the official job title and another raise of $2.23/hour (but it's only that much if I only work 40 hours/week since I'm salary.) Since I was promoted the first time, I've had issues with one specific person. She came in 3 weeks before me but never got promoted because she can't multitask at all. When I got promoted to manager, they moved her to…
