I took a temporary pay cut for the best job of my life, and I don’t regret it.

Ever since I was 16, I've worked in fast food. I quit my last job after a really bad mental breakdown and got hired at a bakery. I went from $12/hr to $11 for the first two months (and then it'll go back up to $12), but in return, I get to work less (I've spent my entire shift so far sitting down and reading a book and have gotten exactly ZERO shit for it, it's totally allowed. The only time I would get shit is the occasional moment I need to make a new batch of dough but once that's done I'm good), I get paid time off, paid sick leave, and health insurance. It's not the best it could be, but it is still undeniably an improvement.

Hostile work place

How would one go about filing hostile workplace lawsuit and proving it?

Workers Rights Violation?

Alright, so I just recently started looking into some potential sketchy shit about my job. I really need some educated advice on if this shit is legal or not, as I'm not entirely familiar with the laws. Let's just say I work in Illinois at one of the biggest fast food chains in America. My coworker agreed to come in on her day off, and then found out she wouldn't be getting OT pay even though she's over 40HRS for the week. Apparently they only do OT pay if it's over 80hrs in the two week pay period? I'm not entirely sure, but that sounds incredibly illegal. I believe she called them back (at LEAST 4hrs in advance from the shift she said she would take) and told the manager that she wouldn't be picking up that shift, and now she's getting written up for it. Another thing I'm unsure…

stuck in a financial rut and don’t know how to improve

Currently it feels like my girlfriend and I are stuck in this horrible rut where we are too poor to improve our living situation but earn too much to be getting any more assistance. I work as a kitchen hand 2 to 3 nights a week but I don't want to be doing this anymore as every week I earn from this job, centrelink lowers my low income pay because of the money I earned by working. So I never earn enough to fix the situation I want to try and improve our lives and move to an industry other than hospitality but that's the only thing I have any qualifications in (everything else I either know or can do I don't have qualifications for) . I really just want to earn at or around 70k a year as that would be enough for me and my girlfriend. I really…

I think this sub changed my entire outlook on work/life.

I m(28) had a rough start to my career after finishing my degree. As a lot of young people do, I sort of just landed my first job and dove head first. I sold my soul to the first two companies I worked for as I was hungry for both recognition and progression. The first thing I learnt the hard way was that most companies (especially larger corporations) don’t have your best interests in mind. Every few years, they’ll do a restructure to remove the ‘bloat’ and lay off waves of people. I think this was just a bit of reality with a hint of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This is completely legal where I live (Aus) and is more common than people realise. After 5 years, I was being made redundant for the second time, same shit, different company. Some soulless HR rep telling…

I stole from my shitty work place

This was years ago but I still feel guilty even though I probably shouldn't. I worked as an unpaid intern for about 6 months, I was helped find the job by someone hired by the mental hospital I lived in so I think that work place just exploited me like no tomorrow. I wasn't paid, not even for commute, I was left alone jn the store while they literally had a pizza party in the back, expected long hours despite the fact they knew I was mentally ill AND unpaid. It was the whole situation of “maybe I guess we'll hire you knew day” bullshit. Anyways I stole about 30 USD from the register and got caught the day after and fired after having an awkward talk with management. I was made to pay back the like 15 bucks (for some reason they never found out about the rest) and…

I interviewed at Erewhon today.

Thinking they were going to have a great benefits package and salary. WRONG. They’re Los Angeles’ most expensive grocery market, where organic berries cost $15/lb, and a yearly membership costs $200/year, so imagine my disappointment when they told me that they would start me off at $17/hr, even though I have 6 years of management experience. I was crushed. That’s significantly lower than what I make now. But they stressed tips being great. Why should we have to rely on tips to survive when this market doesn’t pay their employees enough to actually afford shopping there. Needless to say, I turned down the offer.
