So I have just handed in my notice at my job of 5 months with a private health care company. The pay is shocking and management are worse. Given 3 weeks notice despite only technically having to give one, as I am still in probation period. Asked HR to upload my contract as when we first started everyone was paid a month and a half wages in advance, so when you leave if you go without working your notice you have to pay this money back. (I heard that a woman who left before Christmas without working her notice who apparently has been threatened with bailiffs if she doesn’t pay back). Response from HR was I don’t have access to your contract. I asked, who does? Reply was “it wasn’t uploaded to the system when it was generated”. Surely they do not have a leg to stand on in this…
Unemployment leads to depression
From an antiwork perspective…can you help understand? Studies such as this one suggest that men have an increased chance of depression when unemployed. Studies like this one show there is a correlation (but maybe depression causes lack of motivation which causes unemployment). I've also heard of this happening anecdotally. Are these bad studies? Is it the societal pressure to work that leads people to get depressed when unemployed (negative self-talk)?
Employee Buy-in
Following this community for a while, so I am seeking advice. I manage a team of about 50 people. Where every employee makes at least 60k (boss makes 1.3x lowest employee, average is over 80k) hours 9-4, 4 weeks of vacation, unlimited sick time, full health and contributions to 401k. Any personal reason (bank, appointments, kids sick, looking at homes, etc) we can almost always cover off and let someone go (with pay) to go deal with their personal time. However, employee buy-in is still not at an acceptable level. What other suggestions can be made to improve buy-in that is anti work approved?

Hey guys, I have seen this a couple of times here and recently there was a post with some warning pup ups about inaction. You don't need special software, USB drives, mouse jiggler or the like. Just do this (when you have a Windows computer): Create a new Text file Paste this code in the file: Echo “Keep-alive with Scroll Lock…” $WShell = New-Object -com “Wscript.Shell” while ($true) { $WShell.sendkeys(“{SCROLLLOCK}”) Start-Sleep -Seconds 10 } save the file under some name (e.g. keepAliveScript) with the ending .ps1 execute the script: Browse to the location you stored the ps1-file in File Explorer and choose; File-> Open Windows PowerShell. Type (part of) the name of the script. Press TAB to autocomplete then name. Note: Do this even when you typed the name in full. Press ENTER to execute the script. As long as the PowerShell Windows is up and running, you will…
