Decades ago, I was a Pizza Hut manager. The company came out with a bonus for the quarter if we met their conditions. We had 4 Pizza Hut managers in the area & decided this bonus would be impossible to meet. So 3 of us did not even try for the bonus. One manager who was not married moved into the attic of his restaurant. He ran the restaurant with as little help as possible & when things got slow, sent everyone home. After 3 months of living & working in the restaurant, he sent in his quarterly reports. He was told he missed the bonus by $1. So he did not get the bonus. Recently I have been job hunting. The past week I have been working on onboarding with a company and I was ok with the position and the pay was decent. They had to do a background check to continue the process. Anytime this isn't a problem I don't have any criminal background, and that's all I thought they would really be looking for because why would they need more than that? I wake up this morning to an email that I have been pulled from my training class next week because I failed the background check! I was in shock because I have never done anything that would make me fail…I thought. Not exactly antiwork but capitalism is such a disease it bleeds over everything. My college has one of the largest and best cafeterias in the state, a selling point they made sure to mention and now they’re begging other students (who are probably borderline in poverty ourselves) so the students who have to pay thousands of dollars a year to go here can eat. When they have a fully functioning cafeteria!

I am going to try to keep a long story short here. I work in purchasing for a large national company; we went WFH in March 2019 when Covid hit, we have been at home since then, and we went back to the office 3 days a week on April 4. We are home on Wednesdays and Fridays. This job has and can be done fully remote. My wife has been sick and in declining health for a long time, and finally we have had to make the difficult decision to do hospice (keep her comfortable until she passes). In the US there has been an increasing push by multiple minimum wage jobs to have tips at the register for non traditional tipping roles. It could be the cashier at the grocery store, the ups delivery cashier, a clothing store cashier, etc. Although you might think tipping them is helping or you feel guilty for not giving them a tip, you may actually be contributing to the next sick Capitalist scheme: Any job that gets more in tipping than the minimum wage can essentially make that role into Tipping Role. Tipping Role is what waiter roles are where they make below minimum wage at 2.50 an hour and rely on the patrons, not the employers, to pay their wages. If we continue to subsidize corporations and other jobs by tipping their workers, they can essentially get rid of the 7.50 minimum wage by turning all these roles into Tipping…
