Abandoned by the union
I need the help of someone who knows how the union works. Im a custodian who talked my coworkers into trying to unionize. Everybody was on board. I contacted AFC-CIO and SEIU. Got a nice form letter reply saying welcome to the battle kind of stuff. The AFC-CIO sent my request to SEIU and i recieved another flowery form letter. Few weeks passed and never heard back so i sent a request to both for further info. Gave it a few days, never heard back. Began sending requests every couple of days for 2 months now. Not a single reply. Now my coworkers are anti union pointing out that if they ignore us now what will they be like once they have our dues. I tried to point out you cant judge the union because of a few incompetent members dropping the ball but everyone is more pissed off than…
We are small (under 10 workers), members of the us federation of worker coops, we have been trying to do more solidarity work and outreach. It seems like most people need capital to start a coop. But with millions of people being anti work you'd think there'd be more avenues for this, please share them if you got them! Some small things: -We refuse to work on Mondays which has ruffled some client feathers but has worked in our favor shifting work expectations and culture. -We say no a lot to pressure and manufactured urgency and it almost always is fine, pushing back works when others have your back
