So I work on Wendy's. It's a part time on Saturday. 7 hours of my time. I asked if I could take a break at 4 pm since I get out late and don't want to overwork. But my manager told me that they only give me a break when 'they' want to. Is it actually okay for them to do that? Am I thinking too much or they can't do that?

I'll keep it fairly brief, but basically I got hired to be a dog trainer apprentice with a major pet retail store. During the interview, I was told I'd “be doing other tasks in between your classes”, like cashiering, stocking, etc. I don't particularly mind the work, it is incredibly easy work, but in the 2 weeks I've been there it has been purely retail work. Not a single word mentioned of dog training. They all know this is what I was hired for. They made it seem like it'd be like an 80/20 split, 80% dog training, maybe 20% retail work. This is a rant. I’m military and I do just well enough to support our family on my income, but that’s beside the point here. My wife is a certified EMT (although not in our state, there’s a test she’s working toward taking) with additional certifications, and the best offer she’s gotten is 12.50/hour at a position that’s almost an hour away by toll roads. She’s put in 50+ applications at this point, hasn’t even gotten an interview. This 12.50 gig is a care giver position for people in post-recovery from surgery. Then as soon as she asks about the 12-hour shifts, as my duty hours would interfere by an hour or two, the raccoon fucking cock womble ghosts her. There’s a million issues I have with this. Ive worked at petco for almost 6 months. I was only late twice, and today is my third time calling out. One time was because there was a snow storm and I couldn’t get to work. Second was because my ulcerative colitis was acting up and i was in the bathroom every 5 minutes and now I’m sick. I worked yesterday feeling sick as well but suffered all day. Today i feel worse. I called the store and my store manager was saying I somehow have 30 points in attendance infractions and if i dont come in today then she’s going to talk to hr and see if they want to separate from me. Wanting honest and statistically significant customer feedback is good business. High pressure tactics to give perfect reviews need to go. I've never personally worked at one of these places, I just can imagine the type of culture it creates. Example: My car dealership asked for both a survey and a Yelp review. The salesperson said he loses income for every review he gets that isn't 5 Stars. Are you f^ing kidding me? I am now to blame for their employees' compensation? This pressures customers to lie, defeating the purpose of the reviews. Why do we even expect anyone to get a perfect score? Nobody is perfect. Gimme a break.
