Humans do not need to work. All of the labor is handled by robots and AI. People can live comfortable lives indulging in luxury and leisure whenever they want. All of this is paid for by the profits generated by corporations and human workers are not being exploited. It's the ideal society based on the values of Antiwork. Of course there's the whole plot line about the corporation lying about the earth not being destroyed and still salvageable, but honestly why would they even go back? Going back to Earth means essentially people will be forced to work again. Which would be terrible. What do you guys think?
A book that will be of interest here
My friend has written a book about organising at work, which I'm sure will be of interest to people here. I guess you might ask: “if you're anti-work, why would you want to organise at work?” To me, the answer is that, in order to abolish work, we have to build power, and one of the key places we can organise to build that power and to practice wielding that power, is in the workplace. It's in Pluto's Autumn catalogue and is coming out in October: https://d24gssfg51q0py.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/15153124/Catalogue-Autumn-2022-Web-Version-lower-res.pdf?fbclid=IwAR1U4WVPI5B4v2SSYsHD354XCXeyBueYWATVzdYCTsAO_AYxD79Zi8ZA0ZA https://preview.redd.it/vu2shgvnexn81.jpg?width=696&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1420f5c86f97f7dd2378a368ca96ae83e2ec1fa
A friend of mine works in the same field that I do. He is very driven and learns quickly. He started with a company and was learning a lot from the only other I.T. employee. 3 months in, the employee quit and instead of hiring someone new, they told him that he could learn everything, take his time and would be solely responsible for all of their tech. It sounded horribly daunting for someone who was brand new to the company. Still – I knew he could handle it and was very excited for him. I told him, “I bet that came with a good raise!” “Not really bc they know the experience is more valuable in the long run for me.” Dude. What? You're telling me their head of I.T. left and they decided that they would just pocket that salary instead of hiring someone else or paying you…
I posted earlier in the week about the toxic work environment, harassment and bullying in facing. I was written up for the first time in my career, after 2.5 years with the company. I’ve never had a single formal review or even a verbal, above all my KPI’s and was given a salary bump last year. During my time, I worked outside of my only allowed 40 hours (I’m mid level management – but paid hourly + heavy commission) to create an all inclusive manual on start to finish of our job processes. This was not a direction of my supervisor but “something that could really help out”. It took me weeks to compile and when it was done, I was asked the change it and make it into and index with reference page numbers so it could be printed – and that took another 2 weeks. I plan on…

I was interviewed by a robot
So if you check my post history you'll know I was fired yesterday. It was a shitty call centre job with a government department. The new team leader didn't like me and decided that I had “behavioural issues” after working with me for a total of 3 days. I had two previous team leaders before her and didn't have problems with either of them. The funny thing is, I had recently applied for a couple of other government roles and was invited to be interviewed for two of them. The first round interview was with an AI chatbot. The bot asked me questions and I typed my responses into the chat box. The second round interview, again, was with an AI chatbot, only this time instead of typing responses into the chat box I had to record video responses to questions asked by said chat bot. Is this the way…
