Supervisor has reduced my hours

So my supervisor has been reducing my hours of late the point where he's giving me 2hrs a day, what the fuck is the point in even getting in the car for that? When I ask why he's hitting me with “I'm struggling to find hours for everyone” despite everyone else getting atleast 6, and also despite him hiring 2 more people this week, despite the apparent lack of work? Time to jump before I'm pushed surely?

Information on Sysco driver strike

I was made aware today that the Baltimore Sysco warehouse went on strike today and wanted more info. They have without a doubt the best delivery drivers I’ve worked with. Anything I could find with the terms Sysco drivers strike was from 2012-2014. Is there a website that has info about what their goals are? Also is this just typical MSM suppression of workers rights, or do people not care?

Already a dumpster fire…

I’ve been talking to a company about coming on board. The best supervisor I’ve ever worked with has moved there and recruited another past team member, and we’ve been talking for about 2.5-3 months waiting on funding for a project to come through. We have a third meeting yesterday, I get a number of “welcome on board” handshakes, and an offer letter by the time I get home. It’s the same salary as I’m getting now, a week less of vacation, and insurance through Kaiser (not my favorite). It’s also an extra 20 minute commute each way. During our meeting yesterday the guy interviewing me said due to the funding delay we were already behind the 8-ball and I’d be walking into a bit of a dumpster fire. I emailed back on the offer today and said that for more commuting and fire fighting I had expected a pay increase…

Idea: web site for employer-required doctor notes

I’ve read about a-hole control-freak bosses who ‘require’ doctor’s notes if you’re sick. It would be really cool if you could request a medical professional’s note through a website. They could then sign it digitally with a click or two. Then you send HR or your boss the link to the note. Only the date(s) are blurred out. Your boss/HR would unlock that date with a payment or by sending a note to the site, on company letterhead, requesting access to the date. Due to HIPPA concerns or something.

COVID sick time policy is no more

My family finally got hit with Covid. All of us that could get the vaccine have done so and all of us wear masks still, so we haven't been hit too hard. And yet, I've now had to take 4.5 of my allotted 5 days sick time for the year. My boss just told me they've ended the extra time off for covid, which means I'm out of sick time. This is the first company I've worked for that tracks sick time and thankfully my boss has said that we will figure it out informally for any additional days I need, but seeing my international coworkers get so much more time off for being sick is incredibly frustrating. The US only protects the corporations, and I'm sick of it.

Fun with high-level tech interviews!

I'm interviewing for positions that traditionally report to the CTO or VP of Engineering. I'm also in a very niche product speciality (I spoke at many conferences, and wrote some of the product's documentation). Even before Covid I could pretty much demand what I wanted but usually got companies who got themselves in a jam and were wanting to buy their way out. Big hint, if you get to thinking you can just buy your way out, your problems are systemic. I'm trying to get out of this niche and into product, possibly a move up to VP level but with a pay cut knowing consulting pays a lot for horrible conditions. Anyway got a contact from a company that was having an impossible time finding people, etc. First contact with internal recruiter: Initial screen went okay, found they were a consulting company hiring a consultant (me) because they oversold…

How to protest working conditions as an individual? Office job

I work in an office processing payroll. The working conditions at my job have become increasingly intolerable and with inflation, the pay is unacceptable for the job we do. Further, executive leadership recently had an insulting all-hands meeting for my division where they acknowledged employee concerns about WFH, high turnover, and cost of living, and condescendingly stated “be grateful for what you have.” Other employees at my work feel similarly about our situation. I have already emailed the director and senior director for my division expressing the opinions of me and other associates. Unfortunately, it appears as if our opinions have fallen on deaf ears as there was no response. Specifically, I addressed our issue with the hybrid WFH model is 3 days in office, 2 days WFH. We are an international company that works with companies all over the world; meaning we go into the office to essentially waste…
