Former HR manager here. At my last company we introduced video interviews a few years back as a way to reduce recruiter headcount. Er, I mean, as an efficiency measure. For every job we posted we had 300 to 500 applicants. Each applicant did video interviews. The best five to ten applicants would get their interviews watched after the applications were screened. The rest never saw the light of day. Your time is free and server space is cheap. Recruiters salaries aren't. Now you know if you didn't before.
Behold the real priorities
Just got this email today and I don't think I've ever been so aggravated and insulted in my life: Hello Management Team, At the end of next week we are going to be communicating to employees that we will now be monitoring the 2 in-office work days per week much closer. Although some employees have committed to this schedule, many are not. We will be asking employees to communicate their schedule to their manager to ensure we can track attendance. Department heads will need to email HR the agreed upon days of work for your teams. We will also use this as an opportunity to remind employees that these 2 days per week need to be full work days in the office and not just a few hours here and there.
