Minimum wage machine
So what do you think, how many would crank this machine for minimum wage? Even just for an hour? Or a full day? People do heck of a lot more to earn the bare minimum. I would want to see people who complain of “high wages shutting down businesses” to be required to work a full week doing this and a few months doing the work they complain of. While, of course, being paid minimum wage. https://www.blakefallconroy.com/minimum-wage-machine.html

I'm a team leader and have the intention to ask my employer to have my working days changed from: Mon-Thu (07:00 – 16:00) +30min unpaid break/day Friday (07:00 – 13:00) no break 40h/week (this is how my colleagues work too) To: Mon-Thu (07:00 – 17:30) +30min unpaid break/day 40h/week The reasons for this is are: – Increase department's availability by 1.5h/day – Give my deputy more responsibility so that he can make decisions on his own and become more independent – Better work/life balance (I've been here the longest and I'm burned out; I'm not able to disconnect from work anymore; I overthink constantly; and my health is being affected – sleep issues/constant headaches due to stress) In my opinion, this is a win/win situation for the company and I'd obviously remain working my 40h/week. The current colleagues in my department have no objections on this, they want to work…
As said above I finish at 5 and we are told we have to stay available to 5, we can not transfer the call to someone on the late shift, I said to my boss the other day what if I get a call at 4:59 or 5 and then have to stay late? Are average calls are about half an hour, so I said if I stay half an hour late or more, do I get paid for that overtime, they said no but it is a sale towards your target so why would you not want to stay late? And that helps you, Also I could be with the customer for up to an hour just to give them a quote… and leave an hour late not getting paid, and we do not even earn commission by getting the sale, just goes towards targets, that might get us…

unemployment balance
Don't know about the rest of the world, but here in france, a lot of companies still have a lot of job to offer. Most of the time, it's minimum wages and unpleasant, but that make me feel like something is shifting in the worker's mind. If those job keep on getting vacant, that give us weight on a lot of negociations, just like the opposite was for employers (if you don't want this job at the given salary, someone is willing to to it). It's in the interest of all the workers to keep those crappy jobs free, so companies will have no other choices than raising wages and offering more advantages. That's probably gonna be tough since governments are probably gonna take some serious measures to force our hands, but we gotta hold on, things can get really better if we keep on this way. Keep on fighting,…
