My wife was working as a teaching assistant in one of the popular child daycare franchise in Chicago suburbs. In the last 6 months she has worked I started seeing the plight of a daycare staff. 1) With a minimum wage of $15 per hour, she has to deal with sick kids almost everyday. Parents just drop off sick kids and leave. My wife was sick almost every month. She comes in sick and makes others at home sick also. 2) With exposure to this sick environment they don’t get a decent health plan also. They have to pay almost half of their paycheck for a high deductible health plan. 3) They said lunch will be provided everyday for the staff. But it was not a dedicated lunch for staff but the leftovers of what the kids eat there. Some days if the kids eat everything then you don’t get…
I came back from France…
Welp, I came back from France only to find out that they don’t work on weekends because it is actually illegal unless you’re an essential employee. Those who do work weekends get compensated holiday pay.
So I recently interviewed for a project manager position for a local manufacturer. The job was posted at $40k-$60k. Interviewed with the owner of the company alone, took me on a tour of the facility, and offered me the job on the spot, except he said, I’m thinking about bringing you in for 90 days at $18/hr, and then after that we can talk about a review. That’s just over $37k a year which is even below the starting offer they listed. I’m overqualified for the position and only applied because it close to home and I know can do the job easily. They want me to start Monday morning, what do I say and or do? Is this even legal? It feels like the old bait and switch to me, it’s false advertising. Any advice is greatly appreciated as I’m not sure I am comfortable taking a job that…
Fired for investigating safety issues,
Long story, sorry So many years ago i was working in an office job. The job started out fine, typical call center stuff nothing amazing, but it paid decent and i just had my 1st child and this had a stable 6am-2pm M-F so i was there literally for that.I was good at my job i handled everything i needed to, got good marks on my Quality assurance's and had about 5 reviews on me (all over 95%) before our GM was replaced. Now this new guy was an absolute fucking waste of space, showed up late all the time, barely available for questions, didn't know the industry at all…etc. Now about this time he decided to put out a memo stating when we were away from our desks for any reason we had to use “away from desk status” from our call monitor system (so no calls would route to…
Boss can’t understand why I would leave.
Just got another job offer that pays me 60% more, offers benefits, will give me a starting bonus and 30k of stock and…my boss is incredulous that I took the offer. I knew they wouldn’t match it, but went to them and told them that I received another offer and what it was. As predicted they couldn’t match it. But when I said, in that case I’ll accept their offer. I’ll submit my formal notice by email after the meeting. Also I’m giving 3 months notice but they couldn’t understand why I would leave! I was burning bridges and holding them over a barrel apparently.
Unlimited PTO is a trap
Companies that offer unlimited PTO can and do weaponize it against the employee. It sounds like a great option- until it’s utilized by the employee. In my first year I didn’t take a single vacation or sick day. There aren’t any differing options when requesting time off. It’s all under the blanket of unlimited PTO. I eventually used some PTO because of several doctors appointments spread out in a month (unknown health issue at the time that was being diagnosed). Shortly after I asked to leave a few minutes early to pick up my partner from her job because her car was in the shop. I was pulled aside and sternly told that I had taken more time off recently than anyone else in my department and the system flagged me. Asked for an explanation and was again told that I was just flagged by the system. This upset me-…
Fucking sick of the “HAVE OCD TO DO THIS JOB” while people with OCD can be detail oriented and organized OCD is an actual condition that can destroy a persons life. It’s not a fucking personality trait that you can ignore when you want to. I’ll be reporting any jobs like this. DGAF
