I dont understand yalls awful work ethic. Lazy SOBs i swear.
I am not sure if this is the correct sub to post this in, but I’ve seen similar posts and questions so here it goes. If this shouldn’t be posted here, please let me know. Also, this will be quite long. TLDR at the bottom. Some backstory: I am a scrum master. I basically help engineering teams manage their tasks, remove impediments (blockers), run agile meetings such as sprint planning, sprint retrospectives, etc. The team has a Product Owner who is more customer/stakeholder facing. They speak to the customers/stakeholders and figure out what they want and then bring that info to the dev team, which has a Scrum Master and devs/engineers, so that we can break down those tasks into working tasks for a 3 week sprint. That’s the PO role in a nutshell. I recently got hired onto a company that needed a scrum master to teach their teams…
Last year, ZipRecruiter went public. If you are unaware of how HR technology and algorithms unfairly impact the labor market, I HIGHLY recommend skimming through the company’s registration statement. Is it just America?
Every time i see a crazy post on here it is always based in america. Does working suck everywhere or are awful working conditions something that is exclusive to america? I haven't had a opportunity to work yet, but i'm just curious if working in america is worse than working in UK or Europe etc.?
Wow, what a surprise
Is a CSR manager position a BS job?
After finsihing the Graeber's Bullshit Jobs book, I've been thinking about this. Here are the reasons: Most of the tasks performed by CSR managers could be performed by fewer people. Recycling at the workplace? Ask the facilities manager. Non-discriminatory hiring procedures? Call the HR department. Now, obviously, we could argue that CSR managers are just “overseers” that make things run smoothly. However, I've never seen “digital managers” nor “globalisation managers” at digital nor global companies. In order to work there, you had to have a digital or global mindset, respectively. Then, you are either socially responsible or not and if that's the core principle of the company, it should only hire people that believe in the said principle. It seems to me that, for the vast majority of the companies that run it, CSR is just another virtue-signalling activity that is never planned nor managed by people from affected communities…
Discussing wages (UK)
I live/work in the UK and frequently see comments regarding employers trying to ban the discussion of wages (illegally). My employer does the same but after some research I’ve found it’s also illegal in the UK. My question is that I work for a bank – they are subject to so many regulators that they have compliance/governance/legal teams coming out of their arse. There is no conceivable way that they do not know the law in this area so why do they risk giving this instruction?
