I have seen numerous posts about tipping, and I am wondering what people's feelings are on a variety of cases. First, I want to say that I always tip at restaurants and for things like pizza delivery, bartenders, the rare cases where I take an uber or something, etc. That is a standard part of the social contract–if you go to those places, you should expect to tip, at least in my view. I even tend to tip well if the service is bad if I feel it is due to there not being enough waiters/waitresses hired, since that isn't their fault, or if the food is bad, because again that isn't their fault. So this isn't an anti-tip post. My question about tipping relates to expanded tipping. For example, tip jars as checkout counters at places like Subway, or McDonalds, or a bakery, or other places where you stand…
No Breaks on Busy Days
Hey y’all, it’s my first time posting something like this so I hope it turns out alright🤣 To start off i just started a new job at a cafe. This is literally only my 2nd shift and I feel like I’m having some troubles with how they run things. I started my shift around 8:30 this morning. Things slowed down around 10:30 so I went to take my break. I made sure the dining room wasn’t busy, ran all of the orders (I’m a runner and busser) and cleaned the tables off. We also had three other runner and bussers doing the same job. About 20 minutes in my boss (i’m assuming she is i don’t actually know) said that on busy days they ask the employees not to take breaks or “eat as we go”. Because they feel they don’t have time to allow 30 minute breaks for everyone.…
Late schedule every week
This is a bit of a rant and also a question. I have two jobs, one of which is at a hardware store who I won’t name but is a big company. I work 2 days a week there and I almost never get the schedule. My manager was emailing it to us but he stopped. How am I supposed to know when I’m in?? I work Sunday/Monday and the schedules have been coming out on SATURDAY! One day before the new week starts! How am I supposed to figure out my shifts like that? It’s Saturday today and I literally just got my new schedule and I’m contemplating not going in tomorrow. You can’t expect your workers to know the schedule if they aren’t in which is why you email it! I’ve been getting the schedules less than 24hrs before I’m scheduled! How hard is it to make a…
Nice job and I want to quit
Hello, At the start of this year I got a job at a furniture manufacturer. The pay is 16.50/hr, Monday through Friday 6:30am-5:00pm. What I do is cleaning the complete units. The job is on the peninsula of Washington state. The thing that makes me want to quit is the hours. I have been out of the workforce for years and I moved here recently. have been very helpful working with me on understanding my job, but I would feel uncomfortable asking for my hours to be changed. The only reason that I got this job was to make my dad happy. I guess the question is should I quit at the end of the year?

Long hours. Minimum wage. CONSTANT staff shortages. Inadequate cleaning supplies. Building isn’t even up to code. The drains are always clogged. Owner uses unlicensed contractors to fix the building up. It’s horrible. We have to muzzle & leash aggressive dogs with no training. The muzzles & leashes are often frayed or about to break. Management does not care. People work 12 hour days and aren’t even able to take a full 30 minute break. It’s common to see people use drugs on the job to cope with the stress. I have an interview at a better kennel soon. That’s cool, but I worry for my comrades who are stuck here… and I’m worried for the safety of the dogs. The dogs are the best part of the jobs. I love these dogs. Even the bratty ones. Is there anyone else here? I feel alone and I’m so stressed and worried.
