I’m a sales guy who gets reimbursed for gas if I am on a sale. In the last month, our boss has instituted a “gas tax”. Essentially, if you don’t make the sale you were on then you don’t get reimbursed. Is this legal?
Changed start date issue
Is it illegal to change my start date after I had already signed a contract that included my start date? I was just informed yesterday and have now gotten them to confirm it in writing but trying to see what my options are here.
I’m fucking salaried so I can’t get compensated for the extra time and I work in a call center queue so I can’t clock out before 5pm. Fuck being salaried it’s just a way for companies to make you do more then 40 hours without pay. I haven’t had the job long so I don’t know if my work load will take more then 40 hours but I am not working more then that regardless of how “backed up” I might get.
as in, it doesn't matter how hard you work and how good you are, you will always make the same amount unless you take a series of certifications and tests on each station, pass them all and become a trainer. then you get $2 more an hour and past that you have to be promoted to manager for another like $2-3 and so on. So if you don't want to be a trainer or just like being in the basic position or can't advance for whatever reason, it won't matter how hard you work because you will never get a raise. this shit makes SO LITTLE sense to me, how has this company expanded to have so many stores in so many countries when this is the model? Like I don't plan to be here very long but if I did, you could bet your ASS I would be doing…
I'd like to start out by saying that I love my job. I'm an engineer by training, and solving problems and feeling helpful are how I stay motivated at work. This job was everything I wanted and a perfect match for my skills. There was just one problem: my manager. You see, I got this job while the previous hiring manager was on his way out, and I spent the first 2 months basically having no oversight, until they hired someone new. “Brandon” is a through and through corporate creature who doesn't see employees as people, just as company assets that are to be exploited for as much profit as possible and discarded as soon as priorities change. He is also extremely cruel. Brandon and I got off on the wrong foot after I made a very expensive mistake shortly after he arrived. Things just went downhill from there after…
Attitudes towards breaks
If you don't want to take your break then that's fine, you do you, but sorry I'm entitled to 2 breaks in an 8 hour shift and I didn't get my 2nd one last night cause we had a lot of staff out sick. Was very tempted to leave half an hour early, but since I was on the close wasn't sure if I could do that. Also other co-workers working through their breaks then gives management the expectation that everyone will do that, and sorry I'm hungry and need to eat.
Two weeks notice This cultural norm is just ridiculous. If you wanna quit fucking quit. Just walk the fuck out and come back on payday for your last check. With direct deposit, you could seriously just walk right out the door and never go back. It's a courtesy not a rule. You have no obligation to give a two weeks notice, and they have no legal right to withhold your wages. If a previous employee gives you a bad reference, they would have if you had given notice. What are they gonna say? “They didn’t give notice.” fuck ‘em. Also, you can terminated at the drop of a hat. Just, “Get your shit, and get out.” and that's it. This double standard is insanely hypocritical. You're supposed to write a letter, and sit down and talk civilly and spend the next two weeks of your life training your replacement. They…
