Mom is super conservative and has been on the “nobody wants to work” train. My sister doesn’t do we’ll standing up for herself and has been a professional doormat most of her life. My mom was invited to apply for a different roll – basically similar work but at a district instead of a school. Her resume was fantastic, her performance reviews have been outstanding for the 8 years she’s worked there, and her professional references were from people with glowing praise for her. They offered her the job, but at the lowest possible pay rate for that position. She faced them down and told them that the offer was insultingly low. The position has been open for almost a year, the amount of work it will take to get caught up is daunting, and that once she’s caught up it will still be about 20% more work with less…
Back in 2018 I worked for a Christian ministry that served individuals with mental disabilities, generally autism, in a multi-group home setting. In retrospect, it was an awful place. I’m quitting on Monday!
And I can’t be more excited about it. They say people quit their managers, not their jobs. This is 100% true for me. I actually enjoy what I do, and this company in general is an OK place to work. However, I have been putting up with the worst boss of my career so far. He has constantly put me down, refused to acknowledge my achievements and growth, and every single 1:1 we’ve had has been him telling me how bad I am at my job… but he needs me to do XYZ. Well, I just signed an offer from a company who will pay me 30% more, better benefits and perks, and most importantly, don’t think I “can still be an awesome software engineer if I just try to put in more effort and have a sense of urgency”. Fuck you boss, I quit. Bet you didn’t plan to…
