I am a mid-level manager at my work. My manager reports to the CEO. It’s a large company. The CEO occasionally goes around the normal lines of communication and emails me directly to ask something. My manager is a control freak and wants me to run every bit of communication by him before I respond to the CEO. My manager is busy, so sometimes this means I have to wait for them for hours to proof read my message before I can respond to the CEO. I feel like the CEO is probably wondering why I’m taking so long to respond to simple questions. Today the CEO needed something quickly, so I responded right away. When my manager heard, he lost his mind that I didn’t let him read my response first. I’m just trying to do my job the best I can, but my manager is so afraid of…
Long story short, I’ve basically been told I’m most likely going to be fired after a phone scam incident at work. The thing is, after implying I’m almost definitely going to be fired (they wouldn’t explicitly tell me even after I directly asked them if that is the most likely outcome) they told me an official decision would not be reached probably for a few days. I already have plans to be moving and would have to leave this job anyway because my new place would be too far away. Even though I’m not moving for another month or so, I considered quitting earlier before new management takes over. But I didn’t, and now I’ve found myself in this situation. I now just keep thinking though, why am I just sitting here waiting to be fired from a job that I was going to leave soon anyway? That would make…

Not to insinuate that younger generation are morally superior per se, but they unarguably have a broader awareness of fairness and exploitation, and less of a spirit broken workhorse mentality which perpetuates the master-slave dynamic. Do you think we will see dramatic sweeping changes when they reach the upper echelons of organisations, politics etc in 20 or so years, or will the system wring the youthful idealism from their hearts and lead them to become intoxicated with the newfound influence and affluence so that they essentially take up the mantle of their predecessors? I’ve already seen some friends make the “awkward shuffle to the right” as they expand their bank accounts and certainly such positions seem primed for those who are inclined to being cut-throat and dominant more so than egalitarian, at least thus far. How do you see it playing out?

A bit of a background: Recently, I decided to switch career paths from administration and management and into a more data-centric analyst role. I started taking part-time classes at a local college and self-studying SQL and Power BI in my free time. After receiving a job offer from this company as a business analyst, I thought I really had made my efforts worth it. However, things immediately went downhill the moment I started. I was thrown into the job and assigned multiple duties including: Warehouse receiving Warehouse shipping Inventory management Miscellaneous IT tasks Attending meetings as early as 7:30 AM and as late as 9:00 PM without any overtime pay My manager told me that in order to be a good analyst, I had to “get my hands dirty” and involve myself in the process. While I normally agree with this, I received very little training and was expected to…
