Have Employers gotten PICKIER or is it just Me?

So before Covid, I was able to find work pretty easy. I've never been very social and don't have any real connections to leverage, but in the service industry I could easily walk into a new job if I ever needed one. I'd always last at least a few months to a couple years at any job. But ever since Covid, I've noticed a change. Since lockdowns caused my original employer of 2 and 1/2 years to lay me off, I've been constantly in and out of work. Everytime, I never last more than 2 weeks before getting fired. It always goes the same way: I get met with an extremely unfriendly staff who barely regard me and behave anti-social as fuck towards me, nothing I do is appreciated, I'm treated as if I have been there for years, nobody is actually willing to fucking train me, then all of…

Work write ups…

Work write ups are equivalent to an elementary school teacher telling a 6 year old “it will go on your permanent record.” Tell me you lack communication skills without saying that explicitly…

People in the comments said ‘this sounds boring’ ‘that’s called laziness.’ NO, you’ve just been programmed into thinking commuting to a 9-5 badly paid-working for someone else job is the norm! This sounds like heaven!!!

I can’t do this anymore

So I’ll try to keep this short (no guarantee). I started a call center job almost 7 months ago. This is the second call center, I’ve worked in. It pays $20/hr, the insurance benefits are good, and I work from home. My shift is 8 AM-5 PM PST and they require a mandatory 5 hours of OT every week, on top of one Saturday shift per month (and this is only for my department). I take anywhere from 80-100+ calls on a daily basis. I’ve had numerous coworkers quit over the past few months, out of nowhere. My stress and anxiety has never been this high, until I started this job. I have headaches on a daily basis, I can’t go to bed at a normal time anymore, I barely enjoy my weekends, because I am so anxious about going into work on Monday. I have rent and other bills,…

Unemployment repayment?

In 2020 I claimed unemployment benefits after being laid off, and some HR company in Florida(I live in NY and have never worked remotely) cited my SSN. I unknowingly received someone else's unemployment(?) And a document(my monetary determination) that made me responsible for the mishap was sent to me. I was unable to properly interpret much of what they sent me, due to dyslexia and stress I was dealing with. When I brought up my dyslexia in the appeal, in the determination they basically said, “well, you could have called the DOL for help interpreting your paperwork.” I told this to the lawyer group I was talking to and they didn't really have any advice for me(in fact they told me bankruptcy was an option LOL). This point they made about calling DOL makes NO sense to me, as I called DOL hundreds of times before and after receiving the…

My awful experience working at Checkers and 7-Eleven

So before my current job, I worked at Checkers for two years and 7-Eleven for five months and both jobs sucked so bad and I’m curious if any other people have similar experiences. Starting with Checkers, my first ever job, It didn’t start out that bad, other than me fainting my second day, but as time passed I started to realize how shit the job actually was. Firstly, there was little to no AC. It would work sometimes, but if it was too hot out it just wouldn’t turn on. Keep in mind this is in Florida, in a tiny building full of fryers and ovens, in the summer it could get to be 100+ degrees in that kitchen. We begged for the owner to get it fixed and he never did. Second, there was a gas leak for months before the owner did anything about it. We told him…

I can’t land a job and need a change in direction

Context; UK, 22, M After choosing to study engineering at high school for 5 years, I enlisted for a 4 year apprenticeship in mechanical engineering in 2016. The training provider would find you employment relevant to the training course over the period of that time whilst they had in-house college staff provide learning material both theory and practical, to pass the exams and tech-cert. They found employment for me in 2017 in a diesel workshop that specialised in remanufacturing diesel fuel systems – however I was trained to use Lathes, milling machines, band-saws and basic workshop hand equip/tools. No biggie. Only a handful of these companies exist throughout the UK as it is a slightly rare trade. The college closed down in 2020 due to COVID. Later in 2020 I was made redundant for the same reason. I received a generic NVQ pass through the post despite not finishing the…

UPDATE: Coworker is hostile and I’m not sure how to protect myself

Original I kept contact this week via email. The emails were a little long since they were very technical, but they also referred to previous conversations and how to navigate files. The email was meant to act as a reference and encourage conversation in writing whenever possible. Coworker likes to have the last word, so answered in detail back, making sarcastic comments about how I mentioned, “per a previous conversation.” He was apparently troubled by how I organize my files and wanted an “in-depth” conversation to show me how to do my job. To clarify, my files are organized a certain way. Someone in my field would be able to navigate fine, we are in separate fields, and we will not be indefinitely working within the same files. He is literally just plugging in assets one time and saving as a copy. I am in charge of the project we're…
