Hey long time lurker here. A bit of context first, 19 old student here who is planning to start a small business in the design sector for a few reasons – primarily a hatred for the idea of working for something I don't believe in. I have found a small group of like minded individuals who all want to build this company and a big part of it is that we want to build something that is “net positive for everyone” so we have strong commitments to sustainability as well as to workers rights . I was wondering if anyone here has had a similar idea / done this before and had any experience with it or if anyone has any ideas or problems that they foresee us falling into. We are looking into thinks like becoming a B corp or a workers coop but also looking at other options…

Most of this subreddit is comprised of people complaining about their jobs and exposing workplace abuses. While that is all good and absolutely necessary, why is it that there is little in the way of serious Marxist and anti-capitalist discussion on this subreddit? We’re doing a great job of promoting class consciousness here, but are doing little in the way of organizing (with the exception of support for various unionization efforts. You’ve all done great with that, especially raising awareness for the Kellog’s strikes a few months back)

This is my first time posting here although I have on and off looked at the page. I also want to add, I am a huge supporter of the general ideology but the way that I see some people going about this seems to be counter to making any kind of real change. Anyways, here is a comment I made on another post that sums up my thoughts and is in response to people actively trying to distance themselves from their co-workers or do the bare minimum: PSA – be paranoid and do not engage in discussions. I'll keep this short, but posting on main because I strongly believe in this. The occupation and compensation are not the issue. I could be fondling titties for 2 hours a day, 2 days a week, and still be unhappy because I have to work. I simply want to exist now, because working as a means to an end has left me wanting nothing at all. Selling your time is not the answer.

For the 10th day in a row I have been scheduled with only a manager for 9 hours, there are 5 other people there till 1 and then they all leave, who is doing the schedule and why are they the dumbest person alive

Context: worked at a University library circulation desk at night so kids had library access after regular library hours. So last week was my last week at work, which was just a small, 15-20 hour a week per diem position. I have been there for about 4 years and was always a good thing to do for extra money, and worked extra hours when asked, making it kind of part time at points. I was never late, never had any issues, and even went to a couple holiday parties with full time staff. Recently there have been cutbacks in the budget due to Covid and that resulted in my normal hours, which wasnt much already, being cut but still able to keep me on which i was grateful for.
