I work with two people that are pushing 65+ of age. One full time and the other part time. What makes us think we lot are going to only work for 50 and retire for 15? Can you guys tell me what the oldest age of your coworkers are? May be this will put things in perspective and push people to always look for better jobs.
I haven’t worked in three weeks
I haven't been scheduled to work in three weeks now and I am not scheduled once for the next two. Luckily for me, I have been extremely busy with traveling and family emergencies, but if I was depending on these wages more (it's my second job) I would be screwed. I asked my boss about the situation and she explained that corporate is limiting her hours and she can only schedule a few people per day. I feel like I've been laid off without actually having been laid off. I am very confused about the whole situation honestly.
I quit without another job to go to
Before I say anything else, do not follow my lead. Despite feeling relatively confident that I wouldn't be out of work long, if at all, and having a bit of spare money to pay the bills for a bit, the last few weeks have had periods of pretty serious stress. Unfortunately my boss, over a period of a few months, deteriorated our relationship pretty badly. I'd regularly kept my CV up to date but had wanted to last as long as I could before moving. I promised myself that if they behaved a certain way again in a certain situation I would quit. It happened. I rang my partner and she said go for it…bless her heart…despite knowing how stressful this was going to be. The problem was always finding the motivation after a hard day at work to spend all evening job hunting. Funny how facing joblessness can motivate…
Sharing voicemails
In the summer of 2008 I took off my blue vest and left my retail job to join the military. I would have worked until the day I left for basic training, but they wanted 5 weeks notice for a day off to swear in, so I put in my 2 weeks notice early. Our cell phone are taken away from us in basic training until our first weekend off, which is 5 weeks in. We get our phones and turn them on. I have 5 voice messages (my full inbox) getting increasingly angry from my old boss asking me where I am and calling me to cover shifts. I tell the other ladies. One of the other girls worked at the Golden Arches and another at some random mall retail joint. Their voicemails were full of the same crap too.
My Boss Is A Bad Person
I posted screenshots a few weeks back about my lovely general manager, in the time between then and now I have moved to part-time because I couldn’t deal with her. I decided that this most recent thing was the last straw and I didn’t think someone could be this awful. My girlfriends apartment caught fire and our cat was home, we were at the Vet ER for 9 hours watching her fight for her life before she finally passed and the place is now unlivable. The night it happened she was aware and then the next day I obviously called out and said I needed a few days off(I thought it would be understandable due to losing the entire place, apparently not). She texted back saying someone else called out and we cannot operate with 2 call offs that day. I replied that I’m sorry if my home burning is…
I work nights and the job I do is very labour intensive (it's basically repairing the railway). The wage I'm on is absolutely shocking for the work I do, and I seem to be doing more than the people that get paid more than me there. I'm on an apprentice wage but according to the calendar my apprenticeship should have ended on the 4th March. But now right at the end of it we have been told that we can't get off of this apprenticeship until we complete this maths qualification (I'm terrible at maths and haven't done it in a classroom setting in 10 years) They're still paying us minimum wage even though we've completed everything else related to the job and it feels like they're stringing this along so they don't have to pay us an “improved rate” Like I cant survive on the rate that I'm on,…
This is kind of specific but
Has a co worker ever told you “work smarter not harder “ and then proceed to make your job alot harder while also basically doing nothing themselves or just pushing their workload onto you
