Are there any forms of passive income that’s not exploitative?

So this is a question that I've been mulling over for a while, and I'm curious if people here would want to weigh in. If one wanted to reduce the amount of work in their life (with the ultimate goal being zero), while still being able to afford food/shelter/all that fun stuff, what sorts of passive income streams exist that could enable it? Most of the obvious ones are pretty exploitative, either directly or indirectly: Real estate/rental properties are probably the most common one I hear. I don't think I need to go into detail on how hoarding property solely to profit isn't something I want to do. Stocks/investing is another one, but suffers two main problems: firstly, it requires a large amount of capital up front in order to “live off the interest”, and secondly relies on the markets to maximize profits which has some risk and moral compunction.…

Laid off ‘no work for you’

Hey all, Been mostly passive poster here, viewing various posts but i figured I'd share my recent lay off. Six Months ago I got a job in automation, I loved everything about it except for, wait for it, management. Their concept was that I was doing well, but they did not want to say i was doing well. If i was doing well I would then ask for a raise. So they never told me i was doing good. In the interview they mention something about 'being a good enough talker' might give you one week of vacation. But then upon getting hired I had no vacation. They mentioned they would start at 21 an hour, then work up to 30 an hour IF i seemed to be at the level they needed me to be. They never discussed what that level was but just said “You would know.”…

Advice on going back to office.

Hi all. I’m wondering if I have a chance to stay remote or call it quits with my current job. Because of the pandemic I was able to move from a high cost of living area to a very low cost of living area. After two years our president is telling my supervisor and all supervisors that team members are needing to come to the office two days a week. I’m currently six hours away. Our work has not slowed downed and I would argue much more efficient by becoming fully remote over these past two years. My salary is hardly enough to survive where my job is located but is more than enough where I stay now. I know I can find even cheaper places too. I just want a way for my supervisor to understand that my job performance will be worse off if I need a second…

Trying To Keep My Team Morale Up

So, hoping it's okay to post this. I am a mid-manager for a foodservice operation (think like at a hospital). I am working at another unit until May (short staffing) while my new director completes his training by running the team on his own. I stopped in town for Easter break to see my fiance, and found a minimal crew working the kitchen today. So I said hi, brought in some donuts, helped with the lunch rush, and then sat down to eat. During the meal with the crew (six total) I passed out some Easter Eggs woth money and candy inside. Like 30 bucks per person. They seemed happy with it. I am not religious come up but I pray that I am doing enough to keep my team happy and whole. I have been working with my new director for a significant staff wage increase next year, everybody…

Can I do anything after getting fired with an injury from the job?

My boyfriend got fired today from a retail job. We’re both college students. Part of his job is bringing orders out to cars. He was lifting something really heavy and ended up scraping his finger really bad. He lost a lot of blood and was unconscious for a few minutes. When he was able to walk again his supervisor said he couldn’t go home. That was about a week ago and he didn’t fill out anything for workers compensation before getting fired. They fired him because he didn’t go in while his finger was healing since they would still make him lift stuff. Also because they would count it against him when he missed shifts to take a test. I was wondering if there’s anything he can do now that he’s fired. I know it’s a small injury but I hate how he was treated. Also just wanted to rant…
