I was pissed our group got zero raises this year, my coworker was happy enough that he got 100% of target bonus, he said if he hadn't got close to 100% that would have been his nudge to look for another role. I asked him why yet another year of no raise was not the que and he said “what's another $1k a year?” How do you wake someone up to the fact that they are making 7% less if inflation is 7% and wage growth is 0%, or that it's fun to get a $5k bonus but if you keep accepting 0% raises that hurts you way more over time than not getting 100% of your target bonus?
i'm not getting a reference either way because i don't believe in 2 week notices like imma leave givin u the same respect u give me but i wanna like say hey it's not okay we're only getting 16/hr to literally be teachers and counselors and parahealthcare workers lowkey and get nearly no training it's not okay that they keep saying oh we appreciate u but where's the tangible appreciation especially when for in home services they p much never had remote work for newer employees (i've been here almost a year and yeah pandemic was still fierce and i went to ppls homesss) like it's garbage it's not The Worst like but i have a side hustle i'm in college i think imma be fine i just wanna see what others think also hiii
This just happened to me. We got along fine, but this person's demeanor immediately changed to a textbook linkedin-cringe-fest, and after having been reading this subreddit for awhile my perspective on the utility of middle management has become pretty negative, so I can feel my respect for this person about to decrease significantly, unfortunately. I feel we have lost another to the brainwashing of the necktie. I will raise a glass to the working class later today. Cheers.
I quit a committee
At work we have volunteer committees that take on projects outside the normal scope of work in order to accomplish things. It's made up of people from various disciplines in the company and is designed to provide perspective. You do the work on company time but you still have to do your job. My committee has been super demanding of my time and I'm already very busy doing my actual job. It doesn't really do much for me career wise other than being a line item on my resume. I finally realized yesterday that I'm volunteering go work harder for no tangible benefit. I don't like anyone in the group and there's no reward. So I resigned. Apparently no one resigns they just do it until their assignment changes and they can't do it anymore. So, thanks r/antiwork for opening my eyes.
I don’t even know where to start…this is the latest fuck up. Everything was perfect WFH- saved so much money on gas, food, clothes. Much happier being at home, more productive. Company of course talked about record breaking numbers, profits, success all due to how efficiently we WFH and transitioned. NOW: mandatory on site starting April. Plus weekends. Originally we were told we could do weekends at home, NOPE!! The excuse was they pay for lights/building so they need people on site!! I’m applying for other positions for m-f and looking into other WFH positions. My work had a survey where I definitely “anonymously” spoke about benefits of WFH and the harms of moving to On-Site. It feels like i am just stuck, this company has good points, but since all this on-site promises/expectations bullshit started I am not happy working with them anymore. 6yrs at this company- S/A 3…
The title says it, and this obviously isn’t a new narrative. Anyway, let’s get into it; I worked for a baseball team, I won’t say names but it’s fruit related, and the owner exploits his employees / interns SOOOOO BAD. I was the singular full time videographer (shot and edited pretty much everything myself, aside from TikToks & regularly worked 14 hour days during the season and often taking time to finish projects off the clock, at my house) and I was making $32k/annually. Keep in mind I was receiving basically 0 bonuses/bumps if content or merch videos resulted in merch sale spikes or generated large ad revenue. Eventually I started getting like $200 if a video went over 1mil views but I had to fight for that.) The broadcaster, who is the voice of the team and basically the only reason anyone enjoys their game broadcasts, who was also…
How many suffer from low wages?
I was reading that less than 1% of US population makes minimum wage. If enough were suffering, wouldn't Bernie be president? I know we have an injustice in the exploitation of workers, but is it that big of an issue? Sorry if this is offensive, just trying to understand. I made $20 a month working 9am to 6pm, 6 days a week before I came to USA. So I do understand the difficulty.
Today I found out that my company isn't giving raises to anyone on the customer service team for our yearly reviews. This is despite the fact that my service desk lead told me TO MY FACE that a small pay bump I received 3 months ago wouldn't affect my yearly raise. Needless to say I am pissed. And even though this company has mostly been good to me, I know I can take my talents elsewhere (like LeBron James) and get paid more doing it. Rant over.
