My coworkers and I have been talking about pay recently as some people were noticing unfair treatment and our pay was all over the place. No one was happy and some were even saying that it had to do with race. A few days later, management fired one of our beloved coworkers for “attitude problems” and other various lame excuses. After my boss did this, she went on vacation. We all were very upset and really wanted to talk to management about all of our issues so we waited until she was back from vacation and we could call a meeting. Within that week, another one of our coworkers quit because of all the BS. The day she got back from vacation, management called the few people working that day into a 3 on one meeting asking to air anything out. I did, told them what they were doing isn’t…

Just have to get this off my chest. I have worked in a call center for some over priced home decor company for only about 7 months, and we recently had a follow up meeting about how everything is going. Apparently my feedback (about lack of sick time, vacation time is accrued at an amount no one can explain, insurance is terrible and $$$, training is mediocre, etc) and was told by my sup that I have too much feedback and its too negative. Apparently since they don't want to hear it, its not legitimate.
I was working as a “chef” for 3 years now, when I started we were 6 guys working full-time in the kitchen, now a days and still using COVID as an excuse we were only 2 and 1 part-time. I worked 14 hours a day, 6 or 7 days of the week, and not only doing my job but doing things like delivering the money to the bank (around 50-60k a week) and everything you can imagine in a restaurant, even having to use my own car to go shopping for things they missed. All of this for 800 euros per month, my rent here in Portugal is 450 euros. When I asked for a raise he told me this “you just bought a 200 euros knife, I don't think you need it that much”. Yeah, I just bought that so I could work better cause he only gave us…
“other duties as assigned”
Curious on the opinion of the sub/r on this: One of the things that bothers me in the workplace is the insistence of employers to add to job descriptions the catchphrase “other duties as assigned.” I rather get that not all work needs can be known at the time of hire, but transferring this uncertainty to the employees is specious at best. The business work needs to be carried out by employees is a determination that is solely a management/employer responsibility. As an employee, I have no responsibility for proper staffing. IOW, what is my job that I agreed to be responsible for is my job, and only that is my job. Asking me to do other things other duties as assigned they didn’t anticipate, or that they don’t want to pay for because free is a better idea) is asking for me to donate my time and effort without…
I have two separate tendon and muscle injuries. I've been working while injured, forcing myself to learn to be ambidextrous to remain productive. I don't typically complain because I'm just afraid to lose my income. Today I call out after over two weeks of working with one and a half arms. I'm just tired. It keeps getting worse. From a young age, we're punished for calling out of school while sick, but also told to stay home. As adults, we're often punished or fired for calling out while injured or sick, but our doctors tell us to rest. We get scolded. When we get injured at work, our pay is cut while we're on workman's comp or short-term disability. A lot of us can barely afford our normal salaries and to have them cut at all makes us just starve. I hate this system. Being 'weak' makes me so anxious.…
