The ‘motivational’ story of the chicken and the pig

So we have a group meeting in the morning and are told that we need to be committed in our work and not just involved and our boss tells us this story from the CEO. There was a farm that had a chicken and a pig. The chicken had an idea and goes to the pig and says, “Hey Pig, since the farmer is always so nice to us, we should do something nice for him.” The pig says, “Ok, sure.” The chicken says, “We should make him breakfast. I'm thinking ham and eggs.” And then some explanation about how the chicken is involved, but it is the pig that is committed. So we should kill ourselves for our work? How many people did this story go through for it to somehow still make it down to the employee level?

Salary ranges on indeed

I came across a job listing with a position I thought would be a perfect match, with the salary listed as $13-$16 an hour. I figured I would ask for, and get, $16. I have over five years of experience. I put a ton of effort in, including a cover letter, was so excited when they called, only for them to tell me they “Hire everyone at $13 an hour and it's not negotiable.” Experience is irrelevant. If they would have just posted $13, without the range, I would have never applied. What should I do? Is it worth reporting as inaccurate? Are they all like this, posting a range while only hiring at the low number only?! I'm so frustrated right now.

I don’t even know anymore

I thought I did, but I guess I don't? So, I'm a healthcare worker; graduated literally months before the pandemic. After licensing and getting my first job, the US went on lockdown right as I finished my 6 week orientation. Then I was thrust into the thick of it with no protection, warning, or idea what the actual fuck was going on. But recently graduated and feeling a calling for healthcare, I soldiered on through the pandemic for very little pay considering the exhausting and – quite frankly – terrifying work. I worked non-stop for two years putting in crazy hours because hey, “Heroes work here.” Sure, the hazard overtime pay was nice, but goddamn did putting in all those hours burn me the fuck out. This isn't about that. This is about how after starting what many HCWs are doing – travel work – I finally have what I…

Walmart pays new HR employees more than the actual laborers. The Corporate Karens need more $, so they can see you as beneath them. This helps dehumanize you for their class-traitor career. This is a norm of capitalism.

Does anyone else find it super gross that Indeed is flying a whole “we support Ukraine” banner?

This is the de facto website for farming resumes and grinding people down. A website where i applied to 30 jobs in one day and 25% of those applications were automatically denied by the algorithm is out here touting they stand with Ukraine? Indeed can't even stand with actual people, they don't require people to actually post the wage for their jobs, and they facilitate the churn and burn that's destroying the world. But, sure, we stand with Ukraine, Indeed. Puke. (I also have to say that was is wrong and both sides are being thrown into a grinder for autocratic pocket change, but corporations taking stances is like throwing a cream pie into a dictator's face. Congrats. You made a performative and useless gesture.) EDIT: LOL hey if the mods are looking for narcs who are prowling the sub, they're on this post. EDIT 2: Just so you know,…

For a little positivity… Got an unexpected bonus.

Was planning on asking for either milage or a raise to cover gas later this week when I had a meeting with my boss. Got a notification from my bank that a deposit had hit my account for $200 On inquiry my boss said until gas prices go down I will be receiving this monthly to help cover the extra expense.

I don’t dislike my job, but it’s still eating away at me every single day of my life.

Basically the title. I don't necessarily dislike my job. Sure, there are some parts of it that give me stress, but it's not the whole job. I barely have time for myself. But if I were to try to get another job, it'd just be the same thing. I have an interview for another job this week, and depending on how that goes, especially if I can get higher pay, I might switch over to that job. But I know it's just going to be the same thing. I'm considering asking if they'll take me on as a full time position but only work 32hrs/w. I doubt they'll agree and I might lose the chance to get the job, not to mention I'd need even higher pay to actually be able to support myself, but I'm just not the type of person that can handle 40hr work weeks. It's too…

You could quit with a giant manifesto, and management really wouldn’t care. They only care about keeping the machine going.

I have worked in several different industries and the same thing always happens. A bunch of people quit, write their resignation letters, management always blames the employee and a new one is found. Management CAN'T fix the problem because that involves spending more money (ie more people in a busy department) or buying more material/equipment, or anything that spends money. Companies don't want to ever spend money, and managers are told 'too bad, you fix it, that's your job' so managers are generally aware of how shitty it is, and don't care because they can't ever fix it. Then, when too many people quit, the owner tells them this exact words: “You fix it so people stay and don't quit – but it can't cost the company more money, only your time because you are salaried. Maybe you should have 'extra' meetings (beatings) until morale improves?” My current employer just…

Feeling discouraged and depressed lately. Any time I think about picking up any new hobbies, I realize I literally can’t do that because it’ll be unproductive and won’t make money

It shouldn't be like this. Not everything should be done with the endgame of making money from it in one way or another. I have just completely lost the desire to even plan to do any hobbies. Yeah, long term distant future I'll do it when I am hopefully richer but at the current moment, thinking of doing any hobbies that aren't work or school related, just makes me feel extremely unproductive, guilty and dangerous for my financial health and future, it feels like I could be doing something productive instead to make money. Very sad situation.
