I am about to graduate with a masters in Leadership and Policy Studies. I have been wanting to branch out my vocational prospects as my current line of work really has been worn out (mainly due to bad management, job is nice itself sometimes). I've been working in Housing and Residence Life for 4 years. With my degree, I can work virtually anywhere on a college campus (as staff, not faculty). However, I thought I could put in a application for a Team Lead (for human staff, not animals) at a local zoo. I have the necessary supervisory experience and more than enough educational qualifications (they listed bachelors requested). I got an email yesterday that said they went in another direction, that's fine….Then they felt the need to add on 'if you are still looking for a job we have a part-time (20-30hrs week) non-lead position that is $12.10 an…
So it seems, that superiors rely on emotional attacks and blackmailing, to get you to do things that you are not supposed to do. If i get it right, it seems to be a cultural thing that we don't say no, but if the situation really goes bad and continues, even for very bad things, do you have to document them, if you say no to it? Or can you just say “I'm not doing that” and if they fire you and you suffer the consequences for not doing what the superior tells you to do? It seems to me, if they fire you for disobeying they also have to document why they fired you, right? Edit: I mean if they tell you to do stuff way out of your job description, that might even be hazardous because you don't have the appropiate things to do it.
So my sister just returned from maternity leave and her employers cut a full working day from what is usually a full time position. For whatever reason she had to undergo a medical procedure shortly after and needed to take a week off for surgery and recovery. Before returning to her job she gets a text from her boss saying that she should come in an hour later than her usually scheduled start time. Not only that her boss told her that she thinks she’s not ready to come back and now is wanting to cut an additional hour per day to her schedule. As most of you can imagine this has a huge financial impact. I feel like this is really wrong, is there anything she can do about this? Can she get partial unemployment? Any advice helps, thank you so much! (This is in Arizona btw)
Disabled, but not Disabled enough
I'm a damn hard worker. I've worked ever since I turned 15, and always put my all into it. I've done dishwashing, housekeeping, cook, retail… I loved my last job, but I had to leave after my chonic knee pain got too bad to stand for that long (drs ignored my pain for 7 years. I finally found out it's a fracture but that's a different lament). I thought I found something better. Work from home, better pay, better benefits. But it's a call centre. I'm autistic and have severe anxiety. My phone skills have gotten so much better, but not to the level it's needs to be. I can't eat, sleep, or do anything to function because of this job. I know I have assets, and I do bring value, but I don't think anywhere agrees. I have always been in moderate to extreme discomfort with every job I've…
unsafe work environment
I am a mechanic in a dealership. Our car lifts do not get inspected and we are no provided with any accesible first aid kits. I don't understand how the owner is getting away with this. I could report it to OSHA but it's not anonymous. Can I possibly address this inconspicuously?
How many are truly happy at their job?
Just curious, how many of you are or know someone who is truly happy at their job? It seems that this is a very scarce item in today’s world. The only person I know who is truly happy at their job is my brother. He only makes $14/hr but has 100% paid medical, company paid lunch every day, and can take off pretty much whenever he wants so long as there isn’t a pressing need for full staffing.
I applied to a job a few months ago in a field that genuinely interests me. Poured my soul into that cover letter and did various online tests. Never got called to an interview and got an email that they had chosen a different candidate for the position. Whatever…went on with my life. A few weeks later the company contacted me wondering if i’d be interested in interviewing for a position very similar to the one i initially applied to. Sure i said. Prepared for the interview. Interview went well, they asked for references and seemed really positive. A week later they contacted me and said that the candidate they want is someone with an engineering degree (i have a bachelor’s degree in a different field and in the original job advertisement they wrote that all you need is a high school degree). So they’re gonna keep looking for that…
Turned Down Job, Still Unemployed
I've been unemployed for 7 months now. Got an offer this week that was 30% below the bottom of my desired range. Made a counteroffer but the company wasn't willing to compromise at all. Running out of savings. Will most likely end up homeless pretty soon but oh well, rather be homeless than continue to be undervalued most likely by some old ass white boomer. On to month 8 of unemployment… wish me luck
