For background. I currently work as a customer service adviser in a call centre, dealing with finance. Couple of weeks back, I applied for a back of house role with investment company, which involved processing payments/looking after nest-eggs etc. About a week ago, i got an interview with them and was glad to get out away from dealing with people and working with figures (which is the stuff that i like about my current job). In the interview, They asked me questions like “what is your proudest moment?” and “when did you exceed expectations?”. I did the textbook thing, where I used my current job as reference & source of examples. Finish the interview, believing it went well. Just got the callback earlier today from the hiring manager. She told me “you came across very well and would seem like a good fit for our company, however we felt you…
I’ve had shut jobs my whole adult life, 15 years basically, and I’m working on becoming a self made man someday. If I do make it I’ll be damned if I don’t use every fucking tax loophole in existence to keep as much of my money as possible.
Passed up for promotion a second time.
Recently the management position I have been aiming for has opened up due to a restructure in the company, I was promised 2 years that I would be next in line. Today I found out that they gave the position to someone who has no experience running a shipping department and management gave the typical excuses when I asked what their reasons were, this is the second time they have done this. For the passed two years I have been running the department as team lead, I broke several company records during this time. I've consistently put out $2m a month for them and optimized the shipping process. Management always tells people to ask me about anything shipping related because I know everything. But give me the excuse that I still need more experience. Thinking about walking out on monday when they change over the guys title. Or should I…
At more than one place I have worked now, I’ve witnessed the sort of transition where some new authority figure gets hired or transfers over, and their first priority is put their personal ‘stamp’ on the business to make it look like they’ve done something impressive. In my experience, this typically involves removing much of the unique character of the place and making everything uniform and devoid of personality. As an example, all handmade signs must be replaced with company branded or approved signage. It’s never just that, of course. They revise the dress code, they add binders full of new mandatory policies, and of course, the addition of a time clock or something similar to keep us worthless parasites in line, to the minute. So what I’m wondering is, does there exist a common term for this sort of transformation of a place? Just to be clear, I am…
