Bait and Switch Interview

So I had an interview at Cracker Barrel today via Indeed. They have an ad posted for an overnight cleaner. I got asked to take the job and set up an interview with a lady who doesn't work at the restaurant I was applying at. So I get to the interview this morning and the manager after making me sit for 20 minutes sits down and asks if I would be interested in a daytime server position as they already had someone doing the cleaning job who has been there for a couple years. I was absolutely floored. I told him I was insulted by this and asked why he thought it was ok to waste my time and gas to have me come out here for a job that is pretty much the exact opposite as I was told I was interviewing for. He began to apologize and then…

Things are so ass backwards

I cannot understand the mentality of management or owners that YOU are responsible for being motivated to do a job you get nothing in return for. How can you not consider that employees are only as motivated as much as you are paying them. I am seeing a lot on here of bosses freaking out about people not putting in maximum effort 24/7. When you don’t pay enough to cover bills or rent, people are going to constantly be distracted bottom fucking line. When you don’t provide healthcare or sick days, people are going to be distracted. When you don’t pay enough for proper childcare, people are going to be distracted. Unless you’re paying over $30, equivalent to a living wage nowadays, with benefits and retirement then fuck off with any bitching. My job always ask for “fresh ideas,” like wtf universe are you people living in? Are you paying…

“You left 30 minutes early on your lunch, we’re writing you up.” Fine, i quit.

Yesterday i got written up for leaving 30 minutes early on my lunch. My lunches are an hour long and no matter what, the intern i’m training would have to stay at my desk for an hour. At the moment she was doing training however no matter what she’d have to leave for an hour during her training to cover for me. I asked her trainer if i could borrow her a little bit early and they said yes, it’d be no problem. As i pass by my boss’s office she complained i need to let everyone in the office know when i’m leaving. I apologized, said i had an appointment, and left. Once i return, boom a write up. This boss has regularly discriminated against me for my age (i’m 17) and my appearance (my instagram where i post a lot of my makeup but don’t really go to…

Dear Recruiters: If you wouldn’t buy something without knowing the price up front, don’t cold approach someone with a job and not tell them the salary budget.

About a week and a half ago a recruiter from a major company (on their payroll; not a third-party recruiter) emailed me with an engineer job opportunity. He said he was impressed by my resume and thought I'd be a great fit. At face value the job appeared like it was right up my alley since I'd worked on most of the listed equipment brands. Then I noticed the location was a high cost of living area. Using an online COL comparator, my salary would have to rise about 50% to maintain the same purchasing power (yikes). I responded to the recruiter saying the job looked pretty cool, but I also requested the budgeted salary range. I explained that I recently interviewed with a competitor and naively didn't ask this question. Instead, I gave them my salary target when they asked, and no objections were raised. Lo and behold, the…

How they handle your departure tells you everything you need to know

I recently left a company I worked at for 5 years. I was considered “Senior Management” and made significant contributions to the business over my tenure – winning accounts, building strong relationships, fostering company culture, recruiting strong talent, blah blah blah. I reported directly to the President (highest in our office/country) and had pretty high level responsibilities that included direct client contact and hands on activation of programs that were worth millions. My departure created absolute panic. They didn't see it coming and they certainly weren't prepared. The company operates on the razor's edge when it comes to personnel. There's no recruiting, no talent pipeline and HR focuses on “feel good” internal programs rather than making sure employees feel supported and helped (yes, I know HR are the enemy). I provided 2 weeks notice and my departure was a disaster. They didn't tell my staff (other than those I leaked…

“You’ll work for minimum wage and you’ll work 80 hours a week”

A while ago when I was job searching I found this metal work shop that required you to know laser cutting, welding, sandblasting, and a bunch of other things. Im just gonna but the bullet points in this interview I had. •The owner told me that I was going to work 80 hours a week, at least •Asked to match my current job and he literally laughed in my face and said “you will start at minimum” •No breaks/lunches •One bathroom break per shift •No phones in the building at all, if you have it I'll fire you. •They didn't have a room set up for an interview so I had it in the lobby •Complained about politics during the entire interview •Called me about 4 months later to offer me the job •Said some “this generation is so lazy” BS when I declined Something I forgot to add: Only…

I cried at work today…

I cried at work today, out of frustration. I’m working on a project with another department. Currently using a tech platform and a team member who is in the other department is responsible for launching and creating the task and my sole duty is finishing up the second half. It was relayed to the entire team that I need 60 days to complete my portion before the project deadline. We are 40 days out…guess what..the first half isn’t even created or launched… And guess what else… I had to work with the senior team member and show them how to create the task because they have no experience using the system. And this team member is paid a higher salary than I am… management is fully aware of the project status and how I’m impacted. Still went into the bathroom and silently cried. Happy Thursday y’all.

A company wasted 50,000$ worth of good product.

So I don’t post here because I enjoy my work. My boss is amazing, I make okay money to support my family, and I get any time off I want or need. Something really upset me both today and yesterday. A trucking company whose name I won’t disclose at this time was hauling Kosher Grade Glycerin. Our work is tasked with cleaning out the tankers so they can be used again to haul different products or remain within cleanliness standards. The tanker came in with around a thousand gallons of extra glycerin left over from the load. One gallon of the kosher grade is being sold for around 40-50$ US. The company made us drain it all and discard it. I was furious as I don’t make over 40,000 a year and this company just pissed my salary down the drain because someone was too lazy to come retrieve it.…
