How to be made redundant?

So…I have heard stories of people being made redundant and paid high redundancy packages in the UK. I do wonder….how do you make sure you are on the list? Be relatively bad at your job but not too bad? Or is it just pure luck? I would love to hear some real stories…especially from big companies Thanks 🙂

Working semi-remote

Title says all. I am getting tired of driving to work. I do not see the point in working in the field I am in when I can do something else closer to home. Most of the older generations will tell you to man up and stick with it, but I would feel more sane and happier working from home or semi close to where I do not have to drive, and simply walk. You lose money the second you walk out your doors and take risk on the road. My vehicle is old, and I cannot afford something more up to date. Something woke up in me and is telling me to pull away and stick close to home, as I live minimal anyway. Boomers and early Gen X, are you listening? This way of thinking of yours is in the past. Millennials and Gen Z are tired of…

How do you quit a job? (In UK)

Title basically. This is the first job I've ever had so I don't know how to quit “properly” and not make it awkward. I like my coworkers so I don't want to feel like an asshole and just quit suddenly. How much notice are you supposed to give?

Role I’ve been doing given to someone else

I’ve worked at this company for just over 10 years now. For the last few I have been doing things outside of my responsibility in hopes that I would get a promotion. I was doing above and beyond what was expected of me until it was expected of me. I spoke to management and asked if I could be put in the position that I was doing. They told me they no longer have that role in the budget so it would be impossible to do so. After that I stopped doing something of those extra things but because it was now expected of me, I was still being asked to do it. Come to a couple weeks ago, they announced they had finally added that position and they gave it to someone else…. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I am looking for a new job now,…

should I leave? false promise?

So, last October I was job hunting, and found a nice position at a motorcycle and performance shop as a mechanic, and went through with the process. We agreed upon 17 an hour based on that fact I had no previous experience working in a shop, but I had been doing repairs and was ASE certified before working there, just not “professionally” as per say. We agreed upon a 3 month evaluation to assess my skills and if I would be a good fit as a service mechanic, while in the meantime I would be helping with vehicle setup. Well, those 3 months had seems to get by without a problem, but currently I'm 6 months in and have not even gotten a word from management about my review, and ONTOP OF THAT I've been helping with used sales SERVICING their machines on setup pay, basically working in the used…

check this nonsensical shit

My work schedule changes every week. Mornings then nights then afternoons. I'm on the afternoon shift this week. We're scheduled to be at work from 3pm-11pm, but really we're supposed to be there from 2:30-10:30, but in actuality they want us there from 2-10. On our time sheets we're supposed to put our time down as 2:30-10:30. And at 10pm if they want us to finish something or our relief hasn't shown up we're expected to stay the extra 30 minutes we're scheduled for only we don't get paid for an extra half hour. Makes no sense.

no days off

helloo, i’m posting this on behalf of my friend that doesn’t use reddit, she lives in florida and has a new job working in a hospital (not a nurse or doctor, works at the front desk i’m not sure if that will make a difference) and she’s been telling me how she feels extremely sick today and was told that she’s allowed 0 days off unless she’s in the hospital or someone close to her has died… i swear it isn’t legal for them to say you’re not allowed to have any days off, am i wrong? i just want to make sure my friend isn’t getting taken advantage of :/ thanks!!

Employer life insurance seems wrong

My mother passed away and the life insurance that the employer is providing is not (what I understand to be the standards) 1 years salary. My understanding is that normal is between 1-3 years salary. They are saying it is not even half of one years salary… they are saying it is 1/6th of 1 years salary.. This would put my father out of his house.. I’m just wondering if people have encountered this before?

Weird vibes?

On mobile, so sorry for formatting. Not sure if this fits the sub, so I’ll take it down if it doesn’t. I’m a bank teller that is used as a floater between branches, and I’m usually fine with anywhere they send me. But this new branch I’m at has super weird vibes, and there’s only two other tellers other than myself. One of them has bright red hair, and when I complemented it with a follow up of “my hair is going pink later this week” the other teller said that unnatural colors weren’t allowed, even though I already cleared the new color with my district and branch managers. Is this just me making a snap judgement, or is this a red flag? There’s no hair policy, other than it being clean, and I dress according to the handbook.

Treatment by amusement park employer still rankles after 5 years

I was demoted over something I don't believe was my fault. My boyfriend at the time told me it was my fault, but it turns out he was manipulative and abusive, and this was one of the few times I didn't defer to his opinion, so I've never been sure if I was in the wrong or not. Also their practices in general made it the first job I ever quit without notice. So this is basically a work-related AITA five years delayed, as well as a rant. I figured people here would probably understand, and provide some perspective. I don't believe there's anything they can do to me, if they even see this, so I'll start by identifying the park as Elitch Gardens in Denver. If they want to claim defamation or something, they'd have to prove my claims aren't true, right? And they are. To explain what I…
